In terms of plastic breaking down. Remember that breaking down and biodegrading are two very different things. Breaking down into small bits (which I believe is what happens to plastics in the sunlight) might `solve` litter issues making the plastics unseen.
But it`s not like the plastic is turning into anything useful to the ecosystem like a compost, and might possibly be harmful such as could be happening in the pacific. Posted: September 1st, 2010 @ 8:29PM
The article seems to indicate that paper bags are actually worse for the environment in terms of their `carbon footprint` so this seems like kind of a stupid idea. Unless they are severely short on landfill space this seems like a really bad idea. Posted: September 1st, 2010 @ 10:33AM
There`s definitely some need to keep going with space exploration. Mostly I think we should be concerned with getting hit by an asteroid/comet and what we can do about it. First, we have to find as many as we can and although that can be done from ground observations (we need more `eyes` looking though) some space based observing would be even better, especially for objects on the sun side of the earth.
Also developing technologies to enable us to destroy or deflect any objects that may hit us should also be high priority, unlike the movies I don`t think we can just nuke them.
Finally we need to get all of our eggs out of this one basket. We need to colonize the moon and likely Mars, and really anywhere else that would be suitable. Although the colonizing would be a job that would take centuries but there`s no time like the present and at the very least we should be returning to the moon to build some kind of initial moon base to get started. I would say your first impression is correct Nebu. The show coasts by on its nostalgia factor and little else.
The events of the show are purposely slow in an attempt to seem smart and if you don`t `get` it then you must not be smart enough.
Every now and then there`s an interesting comparison of time in the 60`s vs. now and there`s an occasional good moment like the business changes at the end of season 3 but it`s far from the show I was expecting based on the lavish praise I had heard about it which started me watching it.
It is not a terrible show though so I`m still actually watching it but I`m still watching Weeds and Smallville too so my tolerance to keep watching shows that have jumped the shark is pretty high. Posted: August 31st, 2010 @ 9:40AM
Wow, everyone really went all over the place in these comments. I`m amazed at the intolerance to the mere existence of Muslim Americans, it`s quite frightening.
What will probably happen here is Disney will stand its ground like it always does and any lawsuit will be thrown out. It`s pretty clear from what I`ve heard that Disney has a very very strict dress code for any employees that are visible to their customers which employees AGREE to when they are hired. Disney is in the right on this one, as long as it`s universal in the application of the dress code and doesn`t allow other religions items. Posted: August 23rd, 2010 @ 6:10PM
I have to admit this thread of comments was surprising until I realized that "Five Guys" was a burger place rather than five gay men who are very popular.

I don`t want to say anything about buying the game or not. But on the subject of Green Day, certainly Dookie was amazing and afterwards they didn`t exactly pump out the hits but I think American Idiot is an incredible album on par with Dookie. Posted: August 10th, 2010 @ 8:16PM
Another difference between the two situations is the amount of warning. There was a pretty good amount of warning with Katrina, none for the oil rig. Lets not forget that the actual rig accident was responded to by the coast guard (as I understand it) who did what they could.
Some would argue that it`s not the place of the government to be that involved since it`s the responsibility of the company who owns the rig. I guess if they could see that the company wasn`t doing everything it could to mitigate the damage they should get involved but I`m not seeing that. Unless I`m missing something.
Although what BiVRiP mentioned about the shut-off switch certainly seems to be the responsibility of the government, but this after the fact stuff, not so much. Posted: May 4th, 2010 @ 3:07PM
I`m certainly not a fan of Apple. But at least the iPod and the iPhone were gadgets that when I saw them I wanted one, not so with the iPad. Posted: April 5th, 2010 @ 11:45AM
Why do people whine so much when websites are redesigned? Even if the redesign is bad, it`s not like someone came into your house and beat up your family.
In the style of Facebook complainers starting Facebook groups to complain, maybe you should post a video on youtube of you complaining about the new layout of youtube? Posted: April 3rd, 2010 @ 6:00PM
Although I haven`t seen Robots, I agree that Up is overrated. The opening scene is an great piece of emotional film making but overall I didn`t it`s just an okay movie. Definitely not one of the better Pixar films. Posted: March 21st, 2010 @ 4:38PM
I disagree that it`s good. It`s at best okay and unless it improves greatly I`ll probably give up on it at the end of the season. Posted: March 19th, 2010 @ 2:57PM
Wow, is it just me or is everyone missing the core point of the study. It doesn`t really say anything about any of the things done by the higher IQ group being `better` and really isn`t about liberal vs. conservative. Leave it to the people here to zoom right into that though.
What seems to be the point is that the higher IQ group tends to associate with things that are more unconventional in society. Perhaps in a majority atheist society the higher IQ group would be more likely to be religious.
Finally a single correlative study is hardly definitive. Posted: March 19th, 2010 @ 2:56PM
