This is actually pretty sad.
The DI (drill instructor) are trying to prepare these people for bullets flying over their head, mortar shells blowing up in front of their face, and being rocketed for days on end.... If you can`t handle being thrown into a trash can, how are you gonna handle it when a Hodgie gets a grasp of you and is going to cut you head off? Drill Instuctors train these recruits to be men and Marines... They`ve had Marines they trained die over seas... only seeing it in the news, or paper where they can`t do a damn thing about it.
So they make it harder for the next recruit so they hope they don`t see his name in the paper as the next casualty.
People don`t understand nowadays that you are not allowed to physically abuse new recruits in basic training...this of course, does not apply to more advanced schools such as survival school for aircrews and special ops, etc. wherein they can hit you.
I'm sick and tired of this BS about people getting all "soft" when they join the corps. Army, Navy, Marines, I don't give a fling F1ck! Get in there and do it. God Damned dead beats complain and whine and complain and whine.
If you are going to join any corps. You better be ready for what is going to happen. I think they should allow the whole squad to beat and punish the person who told on the Drill instructor/sergant. It's bs. His job is to prepair you for a hard life. Being soft on you will NOT help you survive.
