Samsung Galaxy S III thoughts? My phone is nearly in total failure. It randomly calls people. It can't play mp3s without stuttering. It takes 10 years to launch anything. I think it just needs to be wiped. The battery is also gone on it. HELP! Also Verizon are assholes. For years they had a upgrade every 2 years. Now their upgrade is $30 off the full price. What fucks. So $179 if I upgrade. I can just keep limping along I suppose.
Also fuck Motorola. Both of my M phones have blown.
Galaxy S3: Did Samsung just out-iPhone Apple? - Is this the next buy for later in the year?

So my Droid X lasted ok for a year and 3-4 months or so. Now it's a total piece of shit.
When the USB cable just moves a little, it disconnects and goes through all the pop ups a gain.
The headphones jack is super sensitive. It keeps cutting out. When I try to bike, I set my mp3, turn off the screen. Then the cable changes a little, it turns back on and pauses. Such a piece of shit.
Mp3s are all skipping. No idea why. They're on the memory card.
On the desktop the bottom 4 icons are just blank but they're still there. So I have to guess what they are.
When you try to call people it acts like it doesn't work and then double calls them. So you get them on the phone + get their voice mail. Even conference calls them with THEMSELVES. haha. So they have to listen to their own voice mail.
What a piece of shit. Maybe upgrade in August? Not sure what's out there. I liked the Droid 4 keyboard.
Yesterday, the phone stopped calling at all. It just says connected and no dial tone or anything. I brought it and and the jerks wiped all the phone including all the apps. Now I have to start all over again customizing it. It did save everything on my memory card though. They fixed the problem as far as I can tell. I guess I'll have to try it a while.
I went in and had my battery replaced. It stopped even charging past 50% this week.
Google Voice Searching, Emailing, and Navigation rules. Try it. There's a demo.
No one told me the 2.2 Android came out on Sept 24. I've been on 2.1 all that time. It says the phone was supposed to offer it up but it never did. :(
=After about 6 hours it decided to charge again. Strange.
=Today I forgot to charge it and it ran out of batteries. Now it won't charge up at all via USB or direct line. I think maybe the battery has had it. Lame.
Geez, then the bill comes. $516. $100 rebate they make you wait for over a month for. $100+ for phone bill for last month and this month + the phone. That's nuts. I can see why people do pre-paid phones.
Update -
There's a few cool things over the iphone. You can just put it in harddrive mode and drag your mp3s or videos over and watch them no problem. Iphone you have to go through all this nonsense for your mp3s or videos or convert them.
Spacewise you can jack it up to 40 GB. I just need a 32 GB card. It comes with 20 GB total space. If you see a 32 MICRO SD deals let me know.
There's a new case coming from motorola that fits the dock and case. A friend has seen it.
The resolution SUCKS compared to the iphone 4 but the screen is bigger which makes web browsing so much better than the smaller iphone. When i see my friends iphones screens it looks so much clearer. :(
Camera on the Droid blows compared to iphone (unless I'm using it wrong). And no camera for video chat (not that I've ever used it anyway).
Droid X Car Dock & Home Dock Demo - Awesome. I do like my old Garmin GPS though. I might skip the car dock. The home dock is the best. I don't have it yet though.
Update 5: Loving the phone. It does heat up a lot when you use it sometime. Also the camera is the biggest piece of shit ever. Maybe there's some secret to using it but the pictures look worse than any picture or camera I've ever had.
I would say must by if you're on Verizon. The large size pays off when browsing the web or using other programs.
Update 4: I took 4 photos with the camera and like people said, the pictures are HORRIBLE quality, Grainy. I don't think any camera I've had has done worse pictures. There must be some trick to it.
Playing with my phone for several hours. It's really cool. The bigger screen as people said is actually cool. It gives you more room to type. It also fits in my pocket still.
I can't seem to log into expectnothing.com though, it just keeps refreshing the page without loggin in. I remember a LONG time ago I used to have that problem all the time in IE.
I hate how it adds my 600 facebook lamers to my contacts for phone though. It's also confusing as to how to add a picture to a contact or how to msg someone a picture.
Update 3: Got my phone. My first comment is HEAVY. It tires my arm out. Second comment is horrible instructions how to install the battery. I still think I did it wrong. There's a tab that says PULL but I'm not sure if you're supposed to pull. There's also some weird white thing on the battery lead which you'd think it wants you to remove but I think you're not supposed to. Way to not be user friendly.
Update: - Was hoping it would arrive today. No idea when the mail comes. Still not here at 12:40.
Update: - They're shipping it from Ontario CA to Oregon. Where it will be shipped back to 30 miles away from Ontario later on, all to avoid sales tax. haha.

Ok I ended up ordering one. They are sold out until 8/3. We ordered it in Oregon. That saves $60 in sales tax. Then we're going to ship it to California. F-ers!
My lady ordered the $60 accessory pack (leather case with stand, car charger, blue tooth).
I hate that blue tooth crap. I just use speakerphone.
We'll see! I'm looking for a good case. I might return the one she got since I've never seen it. One problem though is if you get a case, you can't fit in the media charger stand.
I'll let you know if I ever get it. We should be playing Sc2 soon so there will be something else to do.
I'm looking at their web page app store and it seems like the apps really suck vs. Apple store. Maybe it's worth waiting another year or so until they catch up?
I realize there's more available via the phone directly but it's hard to check that without a phone. I do know it's 65,000 apps vs. 250,000.
iPhone 4 vs. Droid X: A Head-to-Head Comparison - PC World says Iphone and says Droid X is way more expensive.
A TA Coworker camped all night for the iphone. He said they gave them like juice or breakfast. He waited at an Apple Store.
After seeing the Iphone 4 at work, my concern about the Droid X is also what another person here mentioned, it's big. Would it even fit in your pocket? I need it to. If not, then it's almost worth waiting until the next Iphone Knockoff version?

| I really dig my android phone.
They are really useful if you hack them for Root access also, which opens up a whole slew of other apps that are not in the app store, such as wireless tethering.
With android phone, you can actually insert a memory card also, your not just stuck with the phone memory.
Lots of custom OS updates like a windows mobile phone, but with an easier to use less clunky operating system.
The marketplace on android has a lot of good free games, as well as paid games.
I have a Samsung Moment. It doesn't get very good support from sprint, they are to busy making crappy new phones to get some money. But I have a full qwerty keyboard and a nice OLED Capacitive touch screen.
Some of the stock apps that come with the phone are decent too, but there are better ones out there generally, and since android is open source, its all good for anyone who wants to develop, unlike apple.
I use Handcent SMS, Google Voice (Which is free to public now if you don't have it) which gives me a second line on my phone, as well as visual voice mail, yada yada. Some widgets and some fun stuff.
Feel free to contact me for suggestions if you pick one up. I'll try and help ya the best I can. |

| IMO, there will be two main smartphone platforms going forward that are worth considering: Android and Windows Phone 7. I don't think Apple's iPhone will be able to keep up because they're too limited, with the primary limitations being that they're only on AT&T in the U.S. and they only have one hardware form factor. Android and WP7, on the other hand, will be on all carriers and there will be many different options as far as devices, so you can choose what works best for you.
WP7 phones should start becoming available in October, and they've taken a very different approach, focusing on a seamless user experience that centers around tasks/themes as opposed to the existing app-centric approach taken by iPhone and Android. It seems to provide a much more natural interface whereas Android is very disjointed in comparison.
Personally, I'll be getting a Windows Phone this fall. It will have some key features that no other phone can offer (such as Xbox Live integration and the best Office and email experience possible).

| I have the HTC Evo 4G with Sprint and the screen on it is a 4.3 inch as well. My girlfriend has the iPhone 3G and I loved it, until I got my phone. I cannot go back to a 3.5in display, as it feels too small.
While it is big compared to other phones, I find the size to be awesome in viewing videos, pictures, and even playing games. The phone dimensions isn`t that much bigger (it`ll fit into any pocket), but the screen is considerably bigger.

| My wife has a moment on Sprint, and I still have my iPhone on AT&T. I will be getting an EVO at the end of the month. I am ditching AT&T.
One thing to add about the Android App store is that you can buy something and you have an hour or so to get a refund if you don't like it. My wife and friend do that a lot. For the Apple store, you buy it, good luck getting your money back. |

| Oh, here’s something I feel that might be applicable to you. When you go through reviews on phones, you need to know what you are looking for in a phone. I wanted more than just a phone. I wanted a phone that kept me entertained when I need it to. A front facing camera is awesome, but useless if you don’t want / need it. Sprint had a big selling point for me because I am able to watch TV on a phone. The only fault I have with my phone right now is the lack of games on the Droid Market (I have not rooted my phone yet).
The iPhone has a vast selection of games that are entertaining compared to the Droid market. The reason may very well be that I have not rooted my phone, but I do not agree with the fact that the warranty has to be voided in order to surpass its competitor. If I had knew the limited amount of games on the droid market, that may have affected my decision on phone choice. |

| You shouldn't be looking on the Droid site for their market store. They are probably only showing you recommended apps for the Droid that Motorola or vzw has picked out.
There isn't much out there for android that is not available, especially after a root hack.
Generally there are 4 or 5 different versions of it from different people.
I got lucky with some of my picks, and they are now some of the top picked apps, and constantly updated. You gotta love stuff that is constantly updated.
Sprint is doing some strange things with their network though and phones. They are just racking out android phones and the old ones are just getting kicked to the curb. The Moment gets almost no support, and was never publicly advertised.
As for voiding warranty to root your phone.
You just flash the stock rom again, and they can't tell.
Android will go far being open source. Users are constantly doing the updates the the carriers are ignoring. They are focused on making money, not making a good product. |

| Droid 1, solid phone with a few minor dislikes (keyboard arrows for instance). If the same quality as Droid 1, X should be solid. Motorola was failing before Droid, I`d give it at least two more phones before they get lazy in innovation again. There is also a Droid 2 coming out shortly after X if you want a smaller phone with a keyboard. Honestly concerning phone size you won`t notice it after a few days. |

| There are certainly fewer games on the Android market. In terms of applications I haven`t found a situation where I couldn`t have something that I wanted. That does happen with the apple app store. For example Super Private Conversation on the Android will password protect call logs and text messages, as well as block callers and text messages. You can`t find the equivalent on the apple app store, for an iPhone equal you have to jail break. |

I do have problems with it fitting in some of my jeans that has smaller pockets, but overall i like the phone a lot, and i could just download most of the apps/games for free without unlocking it. All you need is just Astro file explorer app to install the apps/games yourself.

| To avoid the facebook in your contacts, don`t sync your phone with facebook. I found it annoying at first too, but one neat trick is that you can link your contacts to their facebook so their FB profile picture shows up when they call. It`s a bit grainy, but it does the job so you don`t have to create a picture for them.

I actually laughed out loud at the thought of you having all of those farmville friends, and posters here on your personal cell phone, first and last name, with phone numbers. | The iPhones now look a lot better mainly because of the latest update. I honestly don't see android being that far behind - it doesn't seem as clear because your screen contains the same number of pixels as most standard android phone screens. It'll take some effort from google, but they'll eventually upgrade the OS to recognize the larger screens.
They had to do the same thing and introduced compatibility for 3.7" phones (originals were 3.4" - all versions 1.6 and lower) in the 2.0 upgrade. |

@Smokin Joe - It`s not the OS that makes the iPhone 4 look great, it`s the increase in pixels. But regardless, the iPhone screen size is way too small after playing with 4.3" in.

I also got a high gloss silicone case for the phone, like you said it won`t fit on the docks with the case so it makes it real easy to take off case to put phone into docks. | In February, I literally spent two weeks trying to decide between the HTC Rezound, Droid RAZR MAXX, and Galaxy Nexus. I did all the online research and spent a couple hours at the Verizon store handling the candidates. In the end, I went with the Droid RAZR MAXX. It doesn't have the best processor or screen, nor does it have ICS (yet), but the battery life rocks. Even if the tech specs aren't top of the line, it's at least competitive. I'm really happy with my choice, and it fits nicely in my pocket. The only thing i miss is a physical keyboard. |

Price was the biggest issue for my decision. Also I didnt want to wait for a iphone5 sometime in November. There are always going to be better phone coming out so you just have to pick a solid one and stick with it.
4G is blazing fast and I think a must have for any phone now though.

| I have the S2, and I love it. The S3 seems mostly the same but better. So.. it's probably a good choice. |

| All I can say is the Galaxy Nexus is amazing, I had a flaw with the radio on my first one but since Verizon replaced it I haven't had a single complaint about the phone. Everything from the browser, to the interface, to the customizability of the phone is pretty damn close to perfect.
There still isn't a better phone available with a better screen either. |

| I also have a Droid X Nebu. (and I`ve had it for about 22 months). Sounds like yours has more issues than mine - probably does just need a wipe. My camera did die about 12 months in - but factory warranty replaced it, and I kept on going.
I will say my phone has finally started to show its wear, and is much slower than I`d like - but naturally that`s just what happens with outdated hardware right?
I`d strongly look at ordering the S3 - I`ve heard nothing but incredibly positive things. I`ve actually ordered the S3 and am waiting for it now. I know a ton of folks who think the S2 is awesome - and the S3 is even nicer.
If you compare the specs with your X and the S3, it is going to be night and day. Battery life is more than twice as long, and processing power is ridiculous.
Verizon and AT&T you will deal with the same shit - I actually have both and it`s been pretty equal for them over the years. |
