| I recently read this on my Kindle:
Man is a Wolf to Man
It's not a light and breezy book, but it is written in a very novelistic style. I finished it in a few days.
Here's my all-time favorite. It's allegedly non-fiction, but I believe the author took a lot of liberties. It's a real page turner though.
The Forgotten Soldier
EDIT: Added second book.

| Yeah, you don't want to read Hunger Games. Now Twilight is something you'd LOVE! hahaha
I read 'The Life of Pi' awhile back and really liked it, but I don't know what you're into. |

| The Temeraire series is kinda fun. It's basically about England in the late 1700's early 1800's during Napoleon's time, except there are dragons in the world that make up air forces. Pretty fun reads, and no other "magic" or anything, just the dragons. |

| The last good book I read was Generation: Kill, which was a mini-series on HBO. It`s about 1st Recon Marines (USMC Special Forces) during the initial push into Iraq. It`s fairly old, but still entertaining. It was written by a reporter who was embedded with one of their platoons.
Really interesting, and really shows the difference between the idealized "Greatest Generation" of WW II, and the armed forces today. |

| Just finished A Fire Upon the Deep by Verner Vinge. It's hard sci-fi, but I couldn't put it down for two days. About 400 pages of pure awesome. Going to work after getting 3 hours of sleep a night was not fun. |

| Wizard's First Rule. First book I read after reading the original WarCraft novel. Still my favorite book to this day. It's a nice fantasy series. |

| Life of Pi is less than impressive, Morbo. You can read it, but don't expect any new wonders or revelations from that. |

| @undreaming maybe I'll check out the sample then. I always like to pull something meaningful from the books I read.
"The Driver" really impacted me in a way I'm still trying to process. It was a really great allegory for my life in a lot of ways, whereas on the surface it's just some story about a fool in an m5. |

| Piers Anthony: On a Pale Horse
It's a fantasy series (7 books) that involve humans taking on the role of deities. The first book is about the Grim Reaper, and the others in order revolve around Chronos (god of time), Fate, War, Mother Nature, Satan , God. They're all about the struggle of heaven and hell with the deities in the middle. |

| Try REAMDE. It is pretty quick and mostly action, but the backdrop is a super-successful next-generation MMO that encourages chinese gold-farming. Here is how it works: The Game Company charges next to nothing for playtime. Players can choose to be high-level "heroes" and spend a lot of time and/or gold to get levels/gear, or they can be "miners" and spend their time building mines, digging up gold, and defending their turf. You can convert in-game gold back and forth from real-life currency. The Game Company just makes sure that more money flows "into" the game than "out of" the game - they can control this by controlling the gold vein spawn rate. |

| @TrickShot I haven't read a Steven King book since Highschool.
Do you have a link to the son's book? King's style wore on me after 3 or 4 books. I'm all for vivid storytelling, but King goes the extra 500% to express a point. |

| If you like fantasy, I highly recommend A Song of Ice and Fire, Malazan, and the Black Company. I also recommend "Name of the Wind," which is part of the Kingkiller Chronicles.
Scifi: Foundation series, Robot novels (i.e. - Caves of Steel, Naked Sun, etc.), the first Dune book (but not the sequels for the love of God), Starship Troopers, Ender's Game
I can give you more specific recs if you want them. What do you like? |

| A bit more detail: both Malazan and the Black Company are big fantasy epics with dark themes. Also, both focus largely on military organizations, with soldiers and commanders making up a good chunk of the major characters. They're awesome.
Malazan is, perhaps, a bit much to rush into. If you're interested in either, start with the first Black Company book. It's a quick, easy read, and it's fun. If you like it, read the sequels. If you liked it but wanted something a bit meatier, read the Malazan books. If you didn't dig on the military elements or the dark thematic elements, feel free to move along. |

| Wizards First rule?
I thought it was alright, which got me to pick up the first book in the terry goodkind seeker series, whatever it was. I disliked it. I LOVE fantasy in general, but Terry Goodkind was WAY too Horribly graphic for me. Of my friends who read the rest of the series, they are split.
If you want Old school Fantasy try the original Dragon Lance Series. Chronicles is decent and Legends is Fantastic although you really need to read chronicles to appreciate Legends. A lot of the later dragonlance stuff sucks, but the originals were great.
Also of all the Shannara series, I feel that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heritage_of_Shannara
Was the best of the lot.
I have heard that the mistborn series by sanderson is very good.

| I'm not much into fantasy reading. I really like to be able to draw parallels to what I read. I'm more of a logical thinker.
I use games/movies/my own writings for my fantasy outlet(s) |

| I don't read much non-fiction, so I don't have much to recommend, but these three are all on my reading list.
Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (new window) I may read this next month as part of a book club on mobileread.
Broadmoor Revealed: Victorian Crime and the Lunatic Asylum (new window)
Terror by Night (new window)
Or you can try one of these links since you have a couple biographies on your list:

| If you like political history at all, George Orwell's 'Homage to Catalonia' is ballin'.
I also like 'All Quiet on the Western Front,' and a bunch of Kurt Vonnegut's stuff (especially Slaughterhouse-Five).
Hermann Hesse is good. Steppenwolf is better than Damien or Siddhartha, but they're all somewhat similar. |

| I`m with Trash1 on this, World War Z is really awesome and if you read it, it`ll probably ensure that you`ll find the movie to be a travesty (although I hope it ends up good).
Or also from Max Brooks on zombies, The Zombie Survival Guide. |
TheSilver_Ghost is awesome.

| Man. I could go nuts in this post.
But since you seem to have a fantasy bent (which I don't) I would have to suggest Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.
I can't say I was a huge fan of his writing style, but I really, really dig the themes in the book. |
