| I realize there`s a fundamental difference in a white kid from the US versus an Iraqi kid, but. . .
When I was deployed, we used to keep all military-aged males away from our convoy while we were driving through towns. We`d let kids stand closer, and we`d throw candy and stuff at them.
That all changed when a kid threw a grenade on the back of one of our vehicles. The armor and hull protected everyone inside, although the vehicle was rocked, but yeah. Nobody`s incapable of doing bad stuff just by virtue of age.

| jaykay, i hope you know the difference between a 4 year old girl who's already been screened hugging her grandma for 2 seconds and a TSA official assuming she could have been handed a gun by grandma versus an invading army driving through town with a resistance force noticing for months that they allow children near their trucks and then finding a kid to walk up and throw a grenade.
thats not even comparing apples and oranges it's comparing apples and computers. |

| killer6600, i stated that i understand there`s a difference. it was literally the first line.
i`m not talking about the substantive matter of what had occurred. I merely stated that kids are capable of doing bad things, and supported that assertion with a personal experience. The child is not absolutely guaranteed from performing a bad act, just by virtue of being a kid. Being a kid, by itself, is not a guarantee. The attendant circumstances may indicate that the child is not dangerous, as it was here, but being a kid alone is not a guarantee.
Thanks. Please learn to understand what I am asserting before trying to refute it. |

| The only reason this is "outrageous" is because of the belief that kids are incapable of wantonly doing bad things, but do you really want to hinge the potential safety of airlines, etc. on such an exclusionary policy? Should kids be exempt from obeying laws, strictly because they are kids, and it`s outrageous to think that they could do bad things?
If it wasn`t a little white girl, but a college-aged middle eastern man, who, after going through security, ran to an elderly woman who triggered the metal detector and hugged them, then refused to be searched again, made a scene, and then ran away, there`s no doubt that`s very suspicious behavior.
Or, like you stated, people noticed that TSA agents do not search children again, even after they leave the searching area, then its possible that someone takes advantage of that.
Under your line of thinking, you would have TSA agents carve out an exception in their searching policy for, at the very least, young white girls. The only reason you`d carve out that exception is "Aw shucks, she`s just a kid."
I`d rather have laws that respond to the conduct of the actor than the age, gender, and race of the actor, thanks. While the TSA agents could have been more discrete about it, that doesn`t change the fact that they have a duty to perform that`s applicable to everyone. |

| sorry, i did read your first line, but the disregarded it when you completely disregarded it yourself "i know this buuuuuuuut" why even make a post?
i dont' remember the article saying the girl set off the metal detector, probably because it wasn't in there.
tsa agents should be paid more and profile people, be it by age race or creed.
maybe if people didn't see tsa agents frisking al gore or kim kardashian and saying "sorry random testing!" or a kid or a 90 year old in a wheel chair "sorry random testing!" and instead didn't see tsa agents until the tsa agents need to be seen (as in when the tsa agents decide they've seen something suspicious and decide to act) people like me would be more open to little girls getting searched.
its one thing to have a trained professional saying i don't like what i saw rather than what we have which is people following a set of guidelines randomly and as they see fit |

| The TSA isn't as bad as Drudge and everyone makes out. They are following their instructions and the logic for what they are doing is sound logic.
That being said, the logic is sound, but the strategy is a failure. If we want REAL security we aren't doing enough which means what we ARE doing is a big waste of time and resources.
I say let the terrorists blow up a jet or two if they will....they are going to do it regardless if that is what they want to do. There is ALWAYS an alternate way to achieve your objective so operating two steps behind the enemy's plans is futile.
The cost to our society to provide a false sense of security far out-weights the potential chance of stopping an act of terrorism. The cockpit door hardening and lock was the only real security improvement made since 9/11.

| I despise the TSA more than Al Queida or any other terrorist group.
I was held up and late for a flight once because the TSA scanners found something wrong with my sandals (I guess something from the beach?) so they put me in this glass room while about 10 of them inspect my sandals then they search me and treat me like I am a criminal. I was freaked out and angry. |

the media is trying to keep people scared for some reason. it is pretty pathetic. my wife thinks pretty much everything she sees on those shows will happen to her and it is only a matter of time. |

| A bunch of my close friends work for the TSA. They aren't all douchebags. My friends don't mess with anyone and they only ask people not to mess with them. It is as simple as that.
Most TSA agents just want you to go through security as fast as possible and have their day progress with no hassles. |

| Thanks for some perspective, Miami.
I got no direct problems with the TSA, the only experience I have with them are the times I've traveled. It hasn't been all that bad, lines have been kinda long and slow, but if you get your shit together, actually preparing yourself for those lines, they don't take very long at all.
A small percentage of idiots shouldn't dictate entire opinions of an organization.
Do I think TSA is the answer? Not completely, but we can't just sit idly by with outdated equipment and old practices. |

| I got a "fun" story to share from the Holidays about how the TSA screwed up a friend's Christmas.
One of my good friends was heading to Chicago for Christmas to spend it with his family. While in Las Vegas, someone tried to lift his iPad. He complained to the TSA and they refused to do anything about it. He called the cops to report it while at the same time the TSA called the cops to have him escorted off the property.
He ended up having such a fight with the TSA that he missed his flight and couldn't get another one.
What a sad holiday season for him and its all the TSA's fault =(. |
