They are so stupid. I made this nice card in my box that says mail from X only. But I keep getting mail from 30 people who used to live at my house since 1975. One group I like to call the terrorists. The mail is for someone like "The people's republic of Boznia somethiing"
I keep marking return to sender. The guy wrote this card that says don't put in mail from those people, but then he doesn't read his own card and puts it in anyway. The guy must be seriously stupid. So my new thing is every lame piece of mail I get from someone that doesn't live there, I put return to sender and dump it back in the mail. F you idiots.
As stupid as this sounds, USPS actually has a rule that unless a special form is filled out at the post office, they *MUST* deliver the mail to the address.
You can resolve that by going down to your local USPS and have them fill out a form for you saying to only deliver mail going to the people who live in your house and then they should stop doing that.
That being said, I see USPS's big problem is they aren't keeping up with the times. They really should look at a model like Earthclassmail.com and look to use that model or a modified model of that as their own.
A lot of people abuse the crap out of USPS too. It's really not hard to ship things for pennies on the dollar if you know the tricks of the trade. USPS would be wise to attempt to close the gap. If they did it right they could easily lower the cost to ship items a lot.
The one thing USPS has been doing recently that has been pissing me off however, is they've been whoring out contact addresses to whoever wants to buy them. They've actually been outright selling address information to big businesses per zip code or area then (this is what's effected you Nebu) ensuring that anything those businesses send WILL get to that address. That means marketers, bill collectors and similar have been more readily been going out and going to addresses that don't want the mail. In the case of adds, there's no way to get USPS to stop pushing that crap to you.
I can't tell you how many pieces of IMPORTANT MAIL I keep miss because it gets buried in JUNK MAIL. I've reemed my local post master general out a few times for them prioritizing putting junk mail in my PO Box over things I actually want / need. Grrrrr.
And then there is their unions and ridiculous pay scale...and the fact that they have insane competitive advantages compared to UPS and Fedex yet still remain unprofitable.

I don't necessarily mind that the USPS works at a loss, it's a Government program and shouldn't be attempting to make revenue, that's for the private sector.
But I would like to see some of the fat trimmed. No idea where specifically, but at those losses, there has to be some parts that can be cut. If their unions are really driving costs up, then limit their power in some ways, or cut salaries, moving forward.
Unfortunately, that's only going to make the service way more terrible. It was a horror show anytime I wanted to send anything from the one in Bushwick/Bed-Stuy when I used to live there. Unless they coincided that with purchasing more of the self-operating ones, those are so super duper sweet and such a time saver.
i think the post office is losing so much money because of the way it has to operate, they don't charge people extra for living in the middle of nowhere, it's like 50 cents or whatever to mail a letter down the street or to alaska if they change that then it wouldn't be so bad, but if they changed that then whats the point of the post office? it'd just be government fedex for fliers and christmas cards
