| Are we (real men) supposed to care about fashion now? This is, relatively speaking, a newer trend and while I usually adhere to it for comfort sake, I hate that people even care about it in the first place. |

| Or wear a braided belt with jeans. Wear jean shorts (jorts). Tuck pretty much any type of shirt in in a casual situation...particularly into shorts. |

| Glad I don't own a pair of jeans but the only time I don't tuck in my shirt is when I'm in workout clothes. |

| Seeing the other comments in this thread, I fear to say this, by I'll toss it out.
As a general rule in fashion, if your weight is within 10 pounds of what you should be at it (IE no gut), you should always be tucking in; otherwise, you shouldn't.
Not tucking a shirt in when you are within 10 pounds of your prime weight supposedly makes your clothing look unnecessarily baggy and overall, like you don't care about how you look.
If you're 10 pounds or more over your ideal weight, you should always untuck.
Obviously in formalware, you always have to tuck in so thats between you and you're tailor / girlfriend to find pants that properly hide your gut (if you have an obvious gut). |

| I wear soft dress pants and then a casual shirt not tucked in. I do it because jeans are cliche now and soft dress pants are more comfortable to walk in. |

| I didn`t realize I was on GQ magazine`s website...
To Hammer the fashion editor at GQ... in response to his and I quote: "If you`re 10 pounds or more over your ideal weight, you should always untuck." There are no "general rules" in fashion other than your socks should match your pants and your shoes your belt and if applicable your hat should all match... And this is really only in formal settings. So I simply say mind your own choices and keep your day job.
I don`t care what weight or class of person you are... Dress how you are comfortable in your own time. If you`re in a business setting dress appropriately.
The only argument against fat people fashion that is justifiable is a white belt. If you have too much gut yes it does look that bad. But if you have a little it can be used to make you appear thinner. If you`re big and want to look good you will still always do so tucked in proper gig line clean with a nice coat and tie. This is something casual dress no matter what movie star sports it will never overcome.
Bottom line be comfortable and stop caring what other people think... Break the rules or follow them to the T, your choice... but the ones who create the trends don`t do so by following the rules. And the people who judge others on how they dress are unlikely to have the capability to have a decent conversation with a door knob.
Lets get back to what makes this site worth visiting and avoid this crap please. kthx :)
p.s. to the original post... go watch a re-run of Saved by the bell... Slater pulled it off and drove ladies nuts, as did Mr. Morris... And it can still be done. |

| I wear white shirts and either cargo shorts or jeans. It's comfortable and makes laundry super easy at the end of the week. Win |

| Some things are faux pas and shouldn't be confused with some sort of desire to fit in. Socks with sandals, high socks with shorts, and tucking in a tshirt when you're a tub of shit. Whether you desire to wear dress shirts and slacks or blue jeans and tshirts is irrelevant to this and is a matter of taste. |

| I rock shorts with high socks. I pull 'em up wicked high.
Bonus points when I rock black ones while I work out. |

| I don`t think the 10 pounds thing is a good `rule.` If you`re wearing shirts that are already too big for you, maybe tucking them in would make you look less baggy, but if you are wearing a shirt that actually fits, I don`t think it`s a problem.
I think a problem most men have is they buy clothes, especially shirts, that are too big. It`s to try and hide fat or on the other side look bigger. But it doesn`t work in either situation. If there`s one thing I`ve learned from shopping trips with female friends and sisters is that you HAVE to try things on, even just shirts, and they have to FIT your body. Not tight, but snug. |

| My "fashion" choices always center around one thing: easy laundry.
I wear jeans, dark t-shirts (usually black), and boots. Those three things you can't go wrong with as a man (tucked or not). I even switched to black socks so I can throw everything I wear into the same load at once.
For formal situations I have a black suit and several dark colored shirts (blue, black, green, etc) that - again - can go into a single load of laundry.
Once you reach a certain point - you just don't care (around 30 for me) |

| There was a guy at work that wore the same black shirt/shorts every day. He must have had 10 copies of the same shorts/shirt. |

| I'd probably be in the same boat as many of you if I didn't have a wife that ironed my shirts every week (my pants are all dry clean only). I agree on the black socks as well, never a reason to own a pair of white ones.
I think a problem most men have is they buy clothes, especially shirts, that are too big. I think that is only a symptom of the true problem: American's are turning into giant tubs of shit in record numbers. I shop for my 80% of my dress clothes at the same store and have for the past 10 years. In this time the same size dress shirts have gotten larger and larger around the middle.(17 1/2 34-35). Now I either have to pay an extra $10 a shirt to have this German lady take my shirts in or I can only buy "fitted" shirts which are a small percentage of the styles. The salesman just says there is nothing they can do about it since their customers are getting larger and larger.
Just this week I was going to buy a "Large" shirt from a British designer and before I checked out I decided I should double check the size charts. Good thing I did because I ended up having to get a 3XL just to fit my size. I'm by no means fat but I'm only average height with a pretty big neck, shoulders and arms.
It is just sad how obesity is screwing this country up in so many ways. |
