| RE: Scammers Using Wheelchairs To Skip Airport Lines Legally
People have been doing that at Disneyland (and I imagine other amusement parks) for years (a-holes). At least they made the lines wider now so people in chairs have to ride with the regular line most of the way now. It sucks that they are getting away with it at airports now. |

| I tried this years and years ago at Orlando International with a buddy. We spend a good amount of time just racing around and doing wheelies and cat walks with them until it was time to go through security. They never once inquired whether the chairs were even needed nor did they inspect the chair or our persons and bags. We didn`t go through any metal detector or a wand inspection or lines we were just let straight through into the terminal. |

| @the ridiculous article that "shows" that the rich in the U.S. pay more than elsewhere
They're just showing the proportion of taxes the top 10% pay in each country. They are -not- showing the proportion of total wealth the top 10% have in each country. The top 10% may pay 45% of federal income taxes (which, by the by, is not representative of all taxes once you take into consideration payroll, state, and local taxes), but they also own about 63% of the wealth. I'm sure these other states are comparable to some extent, but the U.S. definitely has higher inequality than the rest of the industrialized world.
I also love that they try to cite the Heritage Foundation. If you see someone cite Heritage, the American Enterprise Institute, or Cato, you're basically talking to a partisan hack. |

That was the very first thing that popped into my head as well. And according to the source referenced in THIS wiki article, the top 10% in the US have just a tad over 73% of the nation's wealth.
You have 10 people split a pizza and 1 guy gets almost 3/4 of it and then turns around and bitches about having to pay less than half of what he's taking. Meanwhile 4 people have to split 1/5 of 1 slice. But yeah, lets gang up on the latter group because they sure as hell aren't pulling their weight. |

| If you remove the title then the article in it self actually is correct, however if you use this same metric to the people under the top %1 it very quickly becomes nonsensical:
If The top 1% income earners pays something like 37% of the tax revenue, based on the metric being used in the article, then the top 25% of income earners ($65K+ per year) will pay 90%. And once we get to the top 50% the amount payed becomes over 100%. |

Good to see even back in Ancient Egypt people hated going to the dentist (to the point that this guy didn't go until it was basically too late). |

| The problem isn't the fact that the rich are taking from the non-rich, the problem is the fact we have created a society based upon an endless supply of a fiat currency where everyone willing places themselves into immense amounts of debt, those who don't and who make sound financial choices end up wealthy.
The rich are forcing you to buy that new car every 3 years, or take out the largest mortgage you can afford, or to buy clothes you don't need. We do it to ourselves. The only reason this "wealth" distribution gab is growing is because so many people have tied up their income in their homes.
In the US there is more opportunity than any other country so there should be no surprise that our wealthy are wealthier than those in any other country in the world.
Also, if you wanted to be truly objective people would include social security benefits as part of their calculations, which would completely change the figures.
Anyways playing statistics is stupid as anyone can slice them favorably to their argument. |

I dunno, man. There are a lot of very stingy people who scrimp and save because that's all they can do. Plenty of those with good economic sense are having a hard time getting by.

| You might be surprised if you looked at the spending habits of the rich compared to the middle class and the poor. There are far more variables in play other than that true, but a strong correlation can be drawn between wealth and spending habits. Some of that is due to poor education but more often it is just poor decision making and a lack of financial discipline. People want their cake and want to eat it as well. I'm guilty of that myself which is likely why I'll never be rich and I'm fine with that.
I think Statistics should be part of the daily curriculum of all our children. Maybe then we wouldn't be inundated with so much bullshit from politicians on both sides. |

A rare source of agreement between Charkoth and myself! Can we add a bit of econ. and a bit of game theory to that? |

How prophetic is it to show images of destruction of a city that has a whole poop-load of coast/shoreline? |

| I do find it interesting that the men who carved it...only a small guild of carvers from europe who did it decided to show destruction of nyc on a column. Even scientists say this freak storm is strange. Could it spell doom for nyc? We are near the end of 2012 after all! |

| Well, they should talk with meteorologists because there is an explanation for the storm's behavior (albeit erratic).
As for why the carvers decided to? Maybe they were present during a previous brutal storm at one point in their lives. Who knows? |
