WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A missile from a U.S. Navy Aegis cruiser shattered a dummy warhead over the Pacific on Thursday, the fourth intercept in five tests of the sea-based leg of a planned multi-layered missile shield, the Pentagon said.
The Standard Missile-3 fired from the Lake Erie off Kauai in the Hawaiian islands "successfully engaged the target" about four minutes after the target was launched, said Chris Taylor, a spokesman for the Pentagon`s Missile Defense Agency.
Missile defense is actually a great idea for protection against stupid rogue states like north korea who only have a few nukes. But what the American public doesn`t realize is that this system will give you zero protection agains China and Russia. Why do you ask? Because if China and Russia know that you have this system in place and want to nuke you they will just fire off 3/4 of there payload of nuclear weapons to your country and your missle defense will not be able to deter all of the missiles. Not by a long shot.
In short: This system is only good in defending your(our) nation(s) from relatively small nuclear powers (like North korea)
Good. Eventually Cruise and Ballistic Missles will be taken out of the picture. Then war can go back to how it should be: Short Ranged Weapons and Lots of Troops.

Toykillaz, good point. But MAD contains Russia and China.
The missile shied is great for terrorists / rogue states because they are pussies and will try to launch from somewhere where we will have trouble knowing exactly who is to blame. If Russian or China launch then NORAD will know in 60 seconds (or less) who`s to blame.
If either China or Russia fired off 3/4ths of their nukes, it would bring about the apocalypse; for that reason, I believe the missile defense system is great... it will keep the smaller ones at bay and the bigger ones as well, the leaders of China and Russia are not stupid enough to end the world to try and get America.
