As mentioned, the kid probably should have just ignored the teacher and walked elsewhere to continue the conversation... I suspect he was a dick about it.

If everything in that article is true, that kid is an idiot. Apparently he didn`t tell the teacher it was his mom and had a history of bad behavior. I don`t really blame the school at all.

Sorry, but that's a really bad rule. The teacher caused the confrontation ... during lunch! They need rules for against bad behavior, not a tool. They don't ban paper use because it can be used to make spit wads. Being late to class because of talking on the phone is being late. I'm sure if it was like my old school, they'd have land line phones that you could use. How'd that be any different?

| The kid told the teacher to f@ck off and didn`t say that he was talking to his mother in Iraq.
The school has an anti-cellphone policy AND the kid was a $hitbag about it. Had it handled it better he would have not gotten in trouble.
The kid was suspended for using profanity towards and teacher and his attitude -- not because he was talking to his mom in Iraq.

That, or calmly and rationally explain to the teacher that he was on a long distance phone call with his mother in iraq, and i`m sure they would have acted accordingly. but i guess logic doesn`t exist in certain schools.
