Target security breach affects up to 40M cards
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on December 22nd, 2013 @ 7:53PM

  • Here's what you should know:
  • All your Chase cards have our Zero Liability Protection. That means you're not liable for unauthorized transactions you report to us.

  • You don't need to call us at this time unless you see transactions you don't recognize. We're using our sophisticated fraud-monitoring tools to look for abnormal spending and ATM patterns. That helps us block fraudulent transactions.
  • We'll let you know if we see unusual activity on your account.
  • We'll send you a new card if we determine that's necessary.
  • The theft marks the second-largest credit card breach in U.S. history, exceeded only by a scam that began in 2005 involving retailer TJX Cos. and affected at least 45.7 million card users.

Customers who made purchases by swiping their cards at its U.S. stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 may have had their accounts exposed. The stolen data included customer names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and the embedded code on the magnetic strip on back of the card, Target said.

    Almost Caught a Robber
    Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on December 22nd, 2013 @ 7:50PM

I'm coming home. I stopped at some nearby portals. Then as I'm pulling in, I see some dude on a skateboard. So of course, SKATEBOARDING IS A CRIME. So I'm thinking, what is this f-er up to. So I drive up to my garage. I'm unloading the car. I hear the car alarm go off. So I'm like, that skateboarding son of a bitch. I've hated skateboarders all my life. Despite having a skateboard haha.

So I walk down the street to check it out. The alarm is going off in a car and it looks like some woman is in it. But it was a dude with long hair going through it to steal. So I wait to see if he's going to disarm the thing. And they never do. So I see him exit with a grocery bag and I ran my ass back to call 911. But I SUCK at describing people, especially at night. I gave them a few key pieces: guy on skateboard, long hair, hat, carrying a grocery bag.

The Irvine PD response was AMAZING. 15+ cars very quickly. They were on every corner. They harass you a lot but I can't think of who else I'd want but them if you really need them. They took my report. Turns out it was my neighbors car and he said he didn't think they stole anything good. Then the CSI team is out there working on the car. Cool.

Oh well. It's a lesson in suspicious people and not leaving things in your car.
