Air Force 1/2
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 9th, 2015 @ 1:15PM

Yesterday AF1/2, the backup plane that the president wasn't on, was over at March AFB. My daughter's mother's dad got pictures of it.

That's pretty cool to get to see that. But then it's kinda dumb they got that thing just sitting around for him wasting time/energy.

I got to stay at an Airforce Base
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 1st, 2015 @ 10:51PM

My chicks dad was in the airforce so I got to go stay in an Airforce Inn at March AFB. It even had lots of portals, that were all green. This morning I went and killed them all. I went around in the car and added tons of new portals (in 6 months) with all these historical signs.

We got to stay in a 2 bedroom house, which were old office quarters. It was really nice. We had 2 houses. They were only about $50 a night. It really pays to be in the military, the benefits pay off the rest of your life (if you don't die). And if you want the best benefits, get the Medal of Honor (cake). Check out this.

Anyway, the base was pretty cool. I guess now it's a reserve base now so things were kinda run down in places. It was also interesting how I could just drive around all over no problem, except near the runway of course. There's this other really cool base in Arizona with all these planes on standby, stored for future usage. I also thought it was interesting how people just drove around in regular cars. Nothing special.

Nebu,

I was born on a military base and my dad retired when I was 16. You aren't kidding when you say there are some awesome benefits to being in the military. Besides the ones you mention, which are awesome, another is actually the insurance. USAA is the military auto/home/renter's insurance. My dad always told me that part of my inheritance was my right to continue on USAA (since they allow you to pass it on to your heirs even if they aren't in the military).

He said that if some other insurance salesmen were to call me up and offer me to tell me he had an unbeatable offer in auto insurance, I just had to tell them I had USAA, and usually they would just say 'alright' and wish you a good day, which has largely been true. I pay next to nothing for 2 cars (older cars, liability only) and at the end of the year they actually mail me back a check for whatever they didn't use for the year.

I did 11 years in the AF. The pay was shit, the medical care was good, but aside from those things you can call compensation, the AF helped me grow up, taught me responsibility, and made me who I am today. Throw in the cool job I had (http://theaviationist.com/2013/02/26/boomer-kc135/) and the travel that went with it and you get a great overall experience. Sure there were some bad parts, but I learned from them.

Navy Ships
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on October 20th, 2014 @ 5:19PM

We sunk this carrier off North Carolina

I sat here a long time reading about each ship that are in reserve or being scrapped/sold at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Reserve_Fleet

The National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) consists of "mothballed" ships, mostly merchant vessels, that can be activated within 20 to 120 days to provide shipping for the United States of America during national emergencies, either military or non-military, such as commercial shipping crises.

At its peak in 1950, the NDRF had 2,277 ships in lay-up. In 2003, it had 274. In July 2007, it held 230 ships, primarily dry cargo ships with some tankers, military auxiliaries and other types.

That give me rage.

ABC

A U.S. official described the shooting victim as a two star major general, the highest ranking official to be killed in the Afghanistan war. American generals usually have their security detail.

About half of the 15 wounded are believed to be Americans, a U.S. official told ABC News.

End of American Military Dominance

Welcome Chinese masters

You could cut the Defense budget by 60% and they'd still have more money left than China and Russia combined. That doesn't even get into the enormous waste and money mismanagement. The DoD is so mismanaged that for years now the GAO hasn't been able to audit them.

I'm sorry, but if you can't even account for where the money is going, you have no right to complain if tiny portion of it is taken away from you.
