Honestly, I used to think like you Nebu and Osiris, but after listening to the commentary I have a new-found respect for them and their crew of writers/animators/etc...
Basically, their attitude is, if you keep renewing us, we`ll keep writing, and now a lot of their opinions or observations are just becoming more and more obvious. And, if anything, they`ve changed their comedic approach. No one stays at the top doing the same thing.
Either way, they`ve been writing this movie for a long time, apparently, not just recently at all. So, personally, I can`t wait for it.

I like how they said "Dares to be ugly in 2-d" even though the first shot is of Homer in a 3-d interlaced crane a la Futurama, relying on computer graphics.
