| Something is happening to blizz that I just don`t understand. In the past few years it`s like someone has switched my favorite company with an evil corporate entity. This entity seems to care only about making money and not about games. No chat, no cross-realm, one account per cd key, and now leave personal information for pedophiles to exploit? This is actually bordering on the legal side.
As soon as their is a case of stalking, assault or worse due to personal information being listed on the forums there will be a HUGE negative fan and media frenzy against Activi..err Blizzard. I want my company back. Go away Kotick. |

| I'd be for it if I wasn't such a damn Forum Troll. Considering I plan on a future political career I don't care to have my gaming posts calling newbs and scrubs a bunch of retards made public for people trying to dig dirt up on me.
Now I'm going to have to set up a new Blizzard Account under a Pen Name for my Starcraft II account. Annoying. |

| No skin off my back - I don't post on the forums.
I'm pretty sure they're doing it because paying tons of people to monitor the forums just to prevent anonymous idiots from posting garbage is a waste of resources.
Now hopefully there will be more constructive posts and less bitching and trolling. |

| I won't be posting. I don't want anyone who Googles my name (my last name is uncommon) to find gaming related posts I've made. OR crazy gamers finding out personal info about me. There's a reason for usernames online, and why Blizzard wants to change this I have no clue. It's a huge privacy concern. The reasons they give are to prevent "flame wars, trolling, and other unpleasantness". Isn't that what moderators and bans are for? Also, what's to stop anyone from creating a new account and posting under a fake name? This whole idea makes zero sense. |

| I have no online identity. I do not cultivate a facebook page. My name is not super unique, so the 2 "friends" (former professor and a distant cousin that is not of my same race) that I have allowed access to my fb page are not usable as a way to look me up.
All this new rule will mean for me is that I won`t be posting on Blizz`s forums without using an account that doesn`t have my real name. It`s a shame too, because I wasn`t the type to troll people- most of my comments were theory-related and tried to pick apart game mechanics.
I need to keep my online identity null for future employment opportunities.
(Spy, secret government agent, prosecutor, police officer, etc. are all occupations which tend to discourage you from posting your private data lest someone decide they don`t like you and try to find you.) |

| Simply a bad idea Nebu! If you have any sway at all you should get this lifted! Oh wait.
A simple Google will pull up a first link to Facebook right now and it's me. My first name is very unique, but there are only 697 (at last count) in the United States with my last name. I know about 80 some odd of them are my direct family (yep, big family). The other one that shares my name is a district attorney.
And yes, Darren is my real first name, and I also tend to keep my Facebook clean of everything to prevent issues, especially with my employer because they have a policy of checking social media sites of employees for image purposes. I was a victim of identity theft several years back so I am very, very cautious of where I put any information.
I like to post on the Blizz forums, but I tend to be nice to people and helpful. If this will result in people Googling me in the future and seeing my posts - at my employer or in game - I guess my time helping others is at an end.

| Nebu can't speak against his company publically. I know someone who has sources in Blizzard (not Nebu) that claims that the company itself has condemned the idea, that it has very few supporters amongst its staff, and they are trying to get Activision to change its mind. Yes, that's right: Activi$ion's CEO Bobby Kotick himself is pushing for this idea. It's all part of Facebook's integration into World of Warcraft. The only reason Blizzard cannot stop it is because the forums are outside the game, and as such the buck stops at the CEO.
Bobby Kotick, when asked if he could snap his fingers to implement a change, stated that he wants to put a paid subscription service into Call of Duty. That's right: make the Call of Duty series like wow, and require a monthly subscription fee. Someone needs to shoot this fucker in the head. |

| I'm very surprised RRP, given your history one would think you'd be at the forefront screaming bloody murder at Blizzard's (ehem Activision's) Real ID plans.
If you want to know why so many people are against this, THIS post/article does a fine job at covering the major issues. The Facebook comparison is flawed because at least there you have the option to set your profile to private.
I'm with Charkoth on this one (scary!). I have a very unique name and I'm glad to say that googling it only comes up with one relevant link and that's my public LinkedIn profile. I've worked hard over the years to limit my online exposure for one simple reason: the internet is forever and you never know when something might come back to bite you in the ass. |

| Very wise to back down on activision's part.
In a perfect world, with no stalkers, wackos, psychotics, child molesters, identity thieves, scammers, and general scumbags, this would be a nice thing to build a community.
Unfortunately, we live in a world that HAS all of the above, and one of the best ways to PROTECT yourself from said human garbage is by hiding your identity as much as you can.
I hope this STAYS dead, and that this is not simply a tactic by "Bobby" to forestall community outrage and then back-door this horrid idea down the road.
Sadly, I am going to hold off buying Starcraft 2 until I am certain that this is the case. I love blizzard games, and I don't blame them for this - this is 100% a case of meddling from "on high" - but I need to watch and wait a year or so to make sure this hydra stays dead.
Blizzard I trust to make amazing games.
Activision... I don't trust as far as I could toss BK's fat lard filled ass.
Literally. Just his ass.
