Bike Suggestion?
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on July 24th, 2010 @ 6:15PM

Right now I'm riding my chick's $1k mountain bike. It's pretty old. My bike was a Specialized Expedition 2006 and it's a POS. It's SO f-ing slow. Joggers literally stay ahead of me. I switched to the mountain bike and it's so much faster. Also 2 gears are ruined on my bike and it's $120+ to fix it.

I'm looking for a bike that isn't those lame bikes you bend over with the curved handles. It has to have gears. Not the beach cruisers with no gears.

So far the closest one I can think of is:

How about a Cannondale Quick 4?

Thoughts?

I`m looking for a new bike as well, a friend of mine has turned me towards Trek Bikes, he swears by them, basically he told me when your buying a bike these days what you want to be paying for is a strong frame that will last you for the rest of you life, that won`t rust, bend or break ect, where your able to replace other parts, tires, breaks, gears, ect when general wear and tear happens.

I have this Trek hybrid, I find it very comfortable and light for its size. Got it for $299 CAD.

Just road, the bike path or maybe at the beach or around on sidewalks.

I`ll second the Trek recommendation even though I ride a Cannondale Synapse b/c I got a great deal on a used one. I`ll also back up Tirran`s comments on getting a good frame - that`s the important part. I did a lot of research before buying my bike because I`m using it in triathlons and group rides.

Anyway, the cheapest new bike I found that has a decent frame and components is the Trek 2.1. I`d recommend that. It`s going to be ~$1200 depending on where you get it but it will last and if you ever decided to ride with a group or get serious about riding it`s good enough that you can do it.
