Tried Zombies for the first time four player. I don't know if I really enjoyed it. Seems like L4D is better. It was scary.
5/9/11
Sniping is way better. I actually was sniping some people. 60% of people in the game are now snipers.
Made it all the way to level 35 on double XP weekend. I unlocked all the pro versions of things I wanted in only 2 days.
I was introduced to a new game type I hadn't seen "GUN GAME." It's hard to find in the options but it's a wager match. You don't get any good COD points from it but it's pretty fun. You start out with a hand gun, then each time you kill someone, your gun upgrades to a better gun. Whoever gets to balistic knife first and kills seems to win. It's pretty fun. You don't level your guy off it or anything but it's entertaining and it's great training. After playing some of those matches I did much better with regular games. One match I was in, guy knifed 26 people. Each time you knife someone, it down grades them a level all the way back to level 1 pistol.
5/8/11
They changed sniper guns to allow quick zoom. So 1/2 the games are now snipers. If you like to snipe, give it a shot.
This double xp weekend. Rules I'm up to level 28 already.
Level 49 1/2! I don't want to have to get Marathon Pro and Slight of Hand Pro and Flackjacket Pro again but I guess that's what you have to do to keep prestiging.
Famas f-ing owns. Several times last night I'd get 4-5 kills in a row before people would get me. That's standard for some of you better players camping but for me, that's super good considering I'm always running.
I've got 150+ kills with the Grenade Attachment too with Slight of Hand, you hit them with 2 and kill them.
5/1/11
Today we got 6 people in a group. On one map we all had shotguns and it was so fun. Working people.
Level 45
4/30/11
Level 43! One time with DoS I got 9 shotgun kills before they got me haha.
4/25/11
41 at Prestige 1. I love Lightweight Pro, Slight of Hand Pro (every build), Flackjacket Pro, and I love Marathon Pro.
Up to level 35. Unlocked Marathon Pro for the first time. That's hard to get. Then Slight of Hand Pro.
4/7/11
Up to level 25 on first Prestige.
Flak Jacket Pro is where it's at. You survive so many things, Cars, Grenades, Grenade Tubes, etc.
We had a group of 5-6 of us playing last night. It was so much fun having teamwork.
Spaz-12 with sliencer rules! I got 50+ kills.
3/29/11
To the 0 people still playing, Flak Jacket Pro is where it's at. You can survive explosions and stand and walk through fire. Slight of Hand is #2. I'm up to level 13 Prestige 1. The game looks AMAZING on my TV.
3/28/11
I got so bored I started playing COD Black Ops again. My friend (CNIGHT from War2) is level 7 prestige. I decided to dot he first prestige and I'm level 10. Some of those games are so rough I just quit out when people have like 120-14.
1/1/11
Beat single player. Boy that's a seizure waiting to happen with all the flashing. It was OK but the last 2 single were better IMO.
Got level 50 finally a day or so ago. I don't think I'll do the prestige this time.
SOOOO last night I discovered you actually have to BUY the Pro versions of perks. I was wondering why they never worked. The interface doesn't make it obvious that you need to buy them or that upgrading them is even an option. I only had unlocked 2-3 pro versions anyway though.
Got level 45? I had an awesome RC car kill of 2 people trying to cap a flag. So funny.
I got 5 rc cars in one round. It was funny I had 3 in my inventory and just kept making them over and over.
I was totally wrong about the Spas-12. The answer is to never zoom with it. Then take either steady aim or slight of hand. Then I was getting awesome records. I got 19-8 first try. What's great is the silencer, people don't even know they're being shot. You can shoot 3 people in a pack while they don't even know what is going on.
We discovered the decoy. It's a grenade that puts a dot on the map for the enemy with gunfire sounds. We had 4-5+ of us making them covering the map in fake dots. It's funny.
11/16/10
Level 33!
Hardline with the RC car is so funny. I pulled out the car 4 times in one match. Sometimes I stack up the car 2x in my inventory. I car someone, then car them again.
Last night I used a car to blow up someone else controlling a car. Funny!
11/15/10
Read the movie in the thread, spawning is so broken. Today two people killed me, then I spawn behind them 10 feet with my gun facing their back. Thanks!
I took DoS recommendation: Galil with Extended Mags, Slight of Hand, Second Chance, Hardline. With Second Chance Pro, people can revive you. With Hardline, you get 2 kills and get a RC Car. With Slight of Hand, you can spam out the bullets, esp with Extended Mags. That's working great for me. Wish I had the red dot though.
We had almost the ultimate dream team going last night. 5 PLAYERS! (Missing Bshido/Hjpar). We had DoS (firefox), Sikpup, JD, Govern, and me! Before DoS joined, we were doing 12 player maps and it was so funny. It was like John Woo movies. A guy would show up and 2 of us would overkill fill them with bullets. I shot gunned them while another person was filling them with machine gun. It was SOOOO funny. There were so many times where we'd back each other up and kill someone who was about to kill a buddy!
The party joining is so buggy, takes us up to 10+ tries to get us all into a game.
Leveling with the party was great, I got like 5-7 levels.
Don't get the Ak-47, it sucks.
Don't get the Spas-12, it sucks + when you fire this massive amount of metal flies up in the way and you can't even see where to shoot.
I got my voice chat going and me and DoS played for two hours. I got to level 10. Some guy was on SUNDAY and I checked today and he's level 50. SUSPECT!
I found the M16 (starting rifle) was the best for killing people. I switched to that and started to get lots of kills.
I got it for xbox360 because I hate the cheaters on pc. I wish I coulda got the car but oh well. It wasn't an option.

Man, I have to play Modern Warfare 2 for a few days to get back in my groove. If I just start out playing Black Ops cold I'm going to have a shitballs K:D ratio, and that's pretty much all I care about.

I'll be on tonight, looking for you guys. I want to try everything, but I feel like I need to jump online asap to start leveling up. Glad to hear M16 is a starting weapon again, as its usually my favorite gun.

I'll be glad to take your advice again on weapons. I'm so clueless. The M16 (starting?) whatever the first one is the only weapon I can get kills with. I did get a hold of some double hand guns and I got about 7 kills.

My second Call of Duty game ever, got in on Modern Warfare 2 a little late in the game, but found it entertaining. Hopefully this one doesn`t suck either.
I find that the CoD, Halo, and other "big" FPS games that get churned out year-in-and-year-out are completely over hyped and most of my friends stop playing them after a few weeks.
To me, these games are all the same, and have been ever since Doom, Duke Nukem, and Wolfenstein- just with updated graphics and weapons.
Gears of War 2 is completely superior to all of these crappy, rehash FPS games in pretty much every way. Particularly due to the cover system. Gears 2 is two years old and still has a huge multiplayer base. Horde mode is a blast and the single player is great, too.

Well to each his own, I guess. I hate Halo, I have both GoW but I stopped playing them after a few weeks each time. There isn't enough variety in GoW for me when there are like 3 or 4 unique weapons worth using.
But I'm always excited for the CoD series, and I'm never disappointed. I played the first Modern Warfare and then World at War for years, and I've been following the series since the very first one on PC.

M14 feels like the FAL with more recoil. I think it's not bad, but definitely not going to be a top choice. My favorite ARs right now seem to be the FAMAS and the Galil. I haven't unlocked the Galil yet, but I always pick it up on the ground. Famas is slightly weaker at 3,3,4 vs 3,3,3 for Galil (IOW, Galil should always be a 3 bullet kill). The AK-47 and "Commando" (whatever the hell that is) are also 3,3,3, and I hear both are awesome.
The double barrel shotty (Olympia) is fun on small maps as long as you don't get more than one enemy, although with SOH perk the reload is really fast.
Noob tube is still awesome, but now there is no way possible to restock them as far as I can tell. This is a great change for the better, and was my biggest complaint in MW2 (even though I used OMA and tubes primarily for a long time, it was more to prove how broken it was). Now I just use my 2 each spawn and because of my MW2 training, I am still a crack shot and get at least 1 kill per spawn through the tube. I don't really notice the lack of Danger Close perk either, as the range is still pretty big.
Someone apparently was butthurt over getting tubed (lol pun), and last night sent me a message saying "Go back to MW2." Haha :)

I've been practicing on bots since I'm COMPLETELY out of practice. Thought I was getting the hang of it until I joined a multiplayer game.
I got WRECKED. Part of the problem is that I can't remember what sensitivity I play on and nothing feels right. I guess I'll just have to sacrifice my K/D for a week or so until I get back up to speed. But it's hard to go from consistently 25-2 in MW2 with a tried-and-true setup to 3-10 as a level one with guns I hate. SIGGGHHH.
Has anyone seen the commercial on TV for this? It's pretty awesome.
I forgot who it is, but there is a celebrity in it as well. I just can't think of his name at the moment.
I'm still playing World At War. =(
Someday I'll return to the land of the living and play online games again.

Those numbers from DenKirson, which I hold to be the gold standard in these games, seem very different from the post I had earlier and also from my own experience. Specifically, my link (which came from actual testing, not data files) had the Galil, AK47, and Commando (among others) doing a 3 bullet kill at long range. My own experience seems to support this, but I haven't directly tested it. This DenKirson chart says they are all 30 dmg minimum, which is a 4 bullet kill. In fact, only the semi autos (FAL and M14) are 3 bullet kills from any range. I must have been getting some headshots in the mix because I never felt like it was taking 4 bullets with a Galil.
Anyways, the semiautos both look pretty good by these numbers. 50-40 damage is amazing. That's a 2 bullet kill from mid range or closer. Both are oneshot kills from headshots (1.5x or 1.4x multiplier), but the M14 gets it on neck shots as well, for whatever that's worth. The m14 appears to be superior to the FAL by the numbers, but I'll judge when I unlock the FAL soon.
I still don't have a gun that I really like, but the Galil is my favorite AR so far. I also ran the AK-74u with silencer, ghost, steady aim, and ninja and had a field day. Got my first 10 kill streak almost immediately when I switched.
I am starting to notice the lack of danger close the more I use the tubes, but they are still worth using. The iron sights are too good to justify RDS. I want to mess with the custom reticles and lenses, I just can't justify it.
Unlocking pro perks is a bitch in most cases. Please steal 10 of my care packages this weekend so I can get Hardline Pro.

I'm having a rough time taming the recoil on the auto ARs I have so far.
No big deal at medium range, but long range kills are a bitch now. I'm doing better with the M14 than with the Enfield or FAMAS since I have more range potential. I hear the FAL is almost identical to an M14 with Grip already on it (save for what jd already mentioned, the head and neck multipliers). That means you can either skip warlord to get your suppressor on a semi-auto or even slap some extended mags, a sight or some shit on there and go loud.
I hear the Commando is the closest thing to the ACR this go around. That might turn out to be my gun (LASER BEAM) but word is it still doesn't have the heinous accuracy of the MW2 ACR. I mean, I find the FAMAS and Enfield aren't even as accurate as I remember the SCAR-H to be, but then again I'm definitely out of practice.

After a few hours with each, I can safely say the Galil, AK-47, and Commando are essentially the same gun with slightly different recoil characteristics. The only real difference is clip size, with Galil having 35 and the others having 30. The Galil feels like it has a little less recoil, and the AK-47 tends to go straight up more often, but not always. I say pick whichever looks and feels better to you, or Galil if you want the extra 5 bullets (and why wouldn't you?). Range, damage, and fire rate are identical.
The guns are far less lethal at range than before due to no stopping power and more recoil. I feel like the guns themselves are more like COD4, where everything but the M16 had recoil. I hated how the guns were all like lazers in MW2.
I am still very impressed with this game and feel like it's the best yet, at least in multiplayer.

Is the ak anything like it was in cod4? I loved it because it was all vertical recoil. I hate random and/or right leaning recoil. I get the feeling I might be going for the FAL if the AK or Commando don't scratch my itch.
Also I haven't been able to accept party invites lately. I got in like one time in three days. Every time someone invites me and I accept I get a party connection error and Game session no longer available. Getting real annoying, I want to play with you guys and smoke some dudes.

Ak-74 with grip is almost identical to ACR. My accuracy with it is at 22.14% That is almost exactly the same as it was for me with the ACR. My k/d with it is almost exactly the same too (@2.0) So far I am enjoying this game much more than MW2, as there is so much less cheese. Those games the other night with Nebu, JD, DoS and Govern were so much fun. We totally owned with the exception of like 2 matches.

bshido: that's so true about the spawns. They are HORRIBLE in this game. In MW2 it was only sometimes, in this game, if you camp for a while, your whole team keeps spawning on top of you giving yourself away. Even in some remote corner of the map.
Also as shown, tons of time the enemy spawns on top of you or behind you in an area you cleared. It's so bad on NUKETOWN that you can just sit in a corner behind the spawn point and kill people spawning in like BF1942 Europe expansion.
They really need to fix that + joining as parties.

In my opinion people should always spawn in their starting area of the map, no matter what kind of game style it is (except for FFA, for obvious reasons). The whole "spawn near your team mates" idea results in some pretty funky locations.
Registered: 2003-03-20 Location: Irvine, CA Posts: 3630
We shouldn't have to debate how people spawn. That has been figured out 10 years ago. I don't know why this game has so many problems with that. It's going back to the doom2 days. After really paying attention, the spawning is seriously broken. Most of your deaths are due to people spawning behind you in areas you cleared. This is esp a problem on the few small maps.

I had a sick game last night with the spas-12 silenced, but I logged off thinking I could make a movie of it later. Apparently your "recently played" games clear when you log off, so I lost it (edit: no, they don't. Not sure why they were gone before).
I'll make a video of the gun soon. I'm calling it "No Country for Old Men" because the gun feels just like that. Pew pew pew!
Cheese build of the day: Any gun with noob tube, hardline pro. Spam 2 kills from the tube, get your RC car and get a 3rd kill. Throw in a claymore on a random well-travelled alley for another easy kill. Almost guaranteed at least 3 kills per death, not including any other kills you get before you die. Then whenever you die, it's just a reload for 2 tubes + claymore + RC car. Not that I've ever done it, because I always use the spy plane.
Registered: 2003-12-22 Location: Atlanta, GA Posts: 1295
Ah, that's your problem. You should never zoom the spas-12 for any reason at all, ever (any shotgun for that matter). Use steady aim, and the cone of fire is about the same as zoomed, even while moving. Aim around waist level and fire 2-3 shots as fast as you can. The first will probably kill him, but the 2nd or 3rd definitely will, and the recoil will just push it up their body as you fire. And the sound while silenced is the coolest thing I've ever seen on a silenced weapon.
I ran down a line last night and one-shotted 5 people in a row in under 10 seconds, and none of them knew I was there until they were dead. It was so awesome.
Keep in mind this build doesn't work on all maps, so use something else on very open, long range maps.
Lightweight (Could use ghost/hardline)
Steady Aim
Marathon (Could use ninja)

Zombies seems way harder this time around. They like jump in from the ceiling and shit, and some of the areas you open up are almost indefensible.
I just played a bit ago with some friends and had the WORST LUCK on mystery box rolls. I was stuck for half the game with a Dragunov and a rocket launcher. Actually it was hilarious.

The AK does seem to have more consistently vertical recoil than the Galil, but they both still kick randomly and the AK does kick sideways. I found the recoil patterns weren't different enough to justify 5 less bullets in the clip for the AK. Both need to be fired in bursts for long range kills regardless, and they have the same fire rate.
Registered: 2008-10-27 Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida Posts: 980
The AK47 is like 95% vertical recoil. Keep in mind I'm talking about the AK47, not the AK74u. The Galil totally leans right constantly, I lose so many kills because I'm dead on target, hold down the trigger, hit the guy 1-2 times and miss the next 10 bullets while he turns around and kills me. If you go to Den Kirson's [SITE] you'll see that the Galil has 40 positive recoil up and a whopping 50 to the right. The AK only has 30 positive recoil up - the 60 right and left basically cancel each other out.
Of course, the Commando has the same stated recoil as the AK on Den's site, and the Commando is clearly not the same as the AK as far as recoil goes when you actually fire it in game. If you like the Galil, the Commando is pretty similar but even more accurate because it has less recoil. I still prefer the AK47 but the Commando is definitely a nasty gun. When I use it it feels like a more accurate Galil with a slightly smaller clip. I drop a reflex on the Commando with Supressor and it's pretty nice. The Commando also has a pretty quick and slick reload.
For the AK, the irons are pretty sick. So you could either go Grenade Launcher only and pick up Sleight of Hand Pro, or if you like a sight on it, just slap a reflex on it with your reticle of choice. I find putting a sight on it makes it a bit more viable at range since if the target moves closer to you he isn't under your gun so that you lose sight of him with the vertical recoil.
All that being said, if you find you aim more toward the upper chest/head of a target, the AK47 probably isn't for you. You might hit them 1-2 times before it kicks over their head. But if you're like me and you instinctively target center mass, by the time the third shot hits you're right on their neck or head at mid range.
I also unlocked the G11 last night, slapped a Low Power Scope on it with Sleight of Hand Pro (the faster ADS works on the Low Power Scope) and immediately destroyed. I'll see today if it was a fluke or if that gun really is as nasty as it seems.
Oh, and does anyone else think Second Chance Pro is pretty OP compared to the other 3rd tier perks? I can't justify using anything else. Ninja is more or less worthless now (I don't have Pro yet, though), Marathon has always been worthless to me unless I'm running a shotty since I try to be more careful than reckless with a rifle, and while Hacker Pro seems cool, Hacker itself is EH since no one uses claymores but me. Tac Mask I definitely can't justify.
Meanwhile Second Chance Pro lets ANYONE revive you and you stay down for like 30 seconds! I've gotten 3 kills laying in a doorway with my pistol out before, and it counts toward a kill streak. You feel like a dick for using it but hey, I camp at high ground (not in dark corners, ugh) and use grenade launchers all the time, may as well add Second Chance Pro to the mix.

the 60 right and left basically cancel each other out.
I have talked to several people about this and I think it doesn't work that way. The bounce is random, so that 60 left and 60 right may cancel each other out, or you may get 3 kicks to the right in a row.
I think it works like a straight RNG and each shot rolls a dice. It can bounce 0-60 units right, 0-60 units left, and 0-60 units up. Statistically, over many shots they will cancel out left/right, but in any given burst it can and will sometimes go nuts. What I usually see is a cloud of bullets, usually more centered than the Galil, but still far less accurate than I would like. 60 is a lot of kick. One of my friends who uses the Galil exclusively says he just pulls left.
I am going to fire off some clips at a wall and do some analysis. But either way, I agree with you that the Galil is very hard to aim at long range, I also have that crap where people turn around and kill you because the recoil has you off to the right. The answer (with both guns) is to use bursts, but then you are slowing yourself down and that has its own risks.
The G11 is probably my favorite long range gun, but since I prestiged I don't have it any more. I think you should keep the iron sights on it though, as both scopes add sniper sway. Try it with iron sights if you liked it before, they aren't bad. The G11 supposedly has the same delay between bursts as the M16 (0.2 seconds) but it fires the 3 bullets closer together (about 125 rpm faster) which means more bursts fired in the same timeframe. It also means those three bullets hit much closer together, which is why it feels deadlier. I can really recognize the sound of that gun, as the burst is super tight. It's the same number of bullets to kill as an M16, which I don't like, but the fire rate makes up for it. 48 rounds per clip and super fast reload make it awesome.
Here's my current favorite weapon, depending on map:

Generally, I think you're right. As in the case of the Commando, which has identical recoil numbers to the AK. It does seem to jump left and right in equal measures, generally staying on target due to random chance in effect cancelling out the recoil, to an extent.
But something about the AK, at least on the 360 (Den's numbers are all from the PC) makes it pretty much only kick up. All you have to do is unload a clip on the AK47 then unload a clip with the Commando and you can tell - just like the FAL with Holo, the M21 EBR with ACOG, and a few other little quirks, the AK47 is the only gun with almost completely predictable recoil.
Registered: 2003-12-22 Location: Atlanta, GA Posts: 1295
I think a lot of what people are seeing with the AK has something to do with the animation for the gun's recoil. It feels more vertical because of the way the gun seems to do that quick vertical bouncing animation.
I tested today many clips from Galil, AK, Commando, M16, and G11. I was going to make a movie, then realized you can't in local games. My analysis is this:
AK47 and Commando are identical spread, and both are very random. I fired every clip with both guns multiple times. Sometimes a whole clip would land on the dot, sometimes it would carry off to the upper left or upper right, but it always went up. The Galil had a higher tendency to travel right, and almost always left a line of holes going to the upper right, but it still had whole clips that would stay on target. The cloud of bullet holes for all three guns was basically the same size, with the Galil shifted to the right. Also, it should be noted that the Galil has 5 more bullets, meaning there will be more recoil on those last 5 bullets that the other guns didn't see.
After also picking up a few commandos and AK47s in play (I prestiged), I do believe they are better for longer range shots with sustained fire, but again, even with those guns you have to fire bursts or the recoil will get out of hand. In 3-4 round bursts, the recoil difference is negligible, and that is why I say the Galil is my choice (5 extra bullets). I think the difference either way is splitting hairs, and I feel like this game has the most balanced guns yet for sure.
The most interesting finding was the M16 vs G11. I really wish I had video of it. Test this yourself in a local game. I stood against the far back wall on nuketown behind the blue building, and shot the white part behind the garage. The M16 spread was, I would estimate, about 5 feet in diameter. The G11 landed every bullet in about a 1 foot diameter. It was so unbelievably different I had to keep trying it over and over. The farther out you shoot, the more noticeable it is. The G11 puts its 3 bullets on a dime many times better than any other burst weapon I have ever seen in a COD game. That is why it seems to get those one-burst kills so much more often than the M16, even though it technically has 5 less damage. I may not prestige again just so I can make the G11 my primary weapon. It just sucks up close, especially for multiple targets.

I'm digging the G11 for sure. If only I could put a Reflex sight on it!
If close range is an issue, try Steady Aim with it. The clip is so huge you don't need to reload that often, and meanwhile you can fire like 10+ shots at the hip like a shotgun with it.

Oh and I just fell in love with the Motion Sensor. If your goal is to hold a whole corner of the map down rather than just cover your ass for a few moment and maybe get a cheap kill, it blows the Claymore out of the water.
For whatever reason people never blow them up. Used it for like 5 games in a row and the only time it was destroyed was by a random grenade.
I`m prestige 3 rank 32 playing almost nothing but hardcore team deathmatch (and the few games of snd or domination i played i got twice as much xp on average).

Nebu, everyone I know said the same thing about buying perks. It took me several confused games to figure it out.
HJ, I never tried the motion sensor. I'll check that out. The tactical insertion is very important for my 3-4-5 hardline pro care packages. You can come back and kill anyone who tries to steal it, which is a major issue with this games aggressive spawning. I get a lot of fun multikills with it.

It's official, motion sensor is great. Put it behind you and throw a decoy ahead of you and wait for dummies to fall for it. Then when they want revenge and try to sneak up behind you, you'll know it and be ADSing right when they pop out from around the corner. Soooo great.
You can't Hardline reroll any package that isn't a care package anymore, this was changed in the last patch. I'm not sure that I'll be keeping Hardline now.

I'll be on a lot over the next couple weeks with my buddy GovernedEar. You should get on some time and run with us.
Deuce, I quit using hardline pro already anyway. I switched to flak jacket pro after realizing that 90% of my deaths in this game were from explosives. Now that I live longer, I took 8, 9, and 11 killstreaks and do much better. I even use tactical mask on one build with a G11. I call it "camp."
G11 no attachments
Strella
Motion Sensor
Nova/Flash/Stun (any)
Flak Jacket Pro
(2nd perk of choice, usually SoH or SA)
Tactical Mask (will be pro once I unlock it)
Blackbird
Chopper gunner
Dogs (Gunship is fun too)
I usually camp a middle of map high ground point. Put the motion sensor in a central spot away from me so it doesn't get grenaded. I usually get grenades tossed my way constantly once people figure out I am camping, and I laugh at them. When I get tactical mask pro, my one weakness (flash) will be gone. Fun times. G11 gets kills across map all day like the CoD4 M16.
You should keep prestiging. By your second prestige, you have a good idea of what weapons and perks you like and don't have to waste your money on the others. Most of the good stuff comes early, anyway. The one annoying exception is the bolt-action sniper rifle that comes at level 27.
