Hoarders
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on August 27th, 2011 @ 8:52PM

There's this show with 3 seasons about hoarders. I found out about it on Facebook. So far I scanned through all episodes and our house is better than any of them on that show but I showed you pictures of our kitchen or garage you'd be shocked. The difference seems to be these other people have nasty crap sitting around while we have clean crap sitting around. I'm super clean minimalist. I do have 2 rows of boxes in the garage of comics and work memorabilia (action figures). My chick, however, collects everything. The other day she had 4 slides. She sent one to her sisters but why the fuck does someone need 3 slides. She says she'll sell the 3rd slide leaving us only with 2 slides. But we have one slide in our damn living room. The kids are on it every day so I guess that's ok.

Every couple of months I go through my things and unless something has some significant sentimental value, I ask myself:

1) When was the last time I used this?
2) Realistically, will I use this within the next two years?

I can't stand clutter. For me it's purely a pragmatic position. The less stuff I have, the less there is to clean/maintain and the less there is to move if and when the situation calls for it.

I just don't get hoarders.

Connect the 3 slides together to create a mega slide; problem solved.

I afford myself a small box for sentimental stuff. It's a shoebox, so if it doesn't fit in there, oh well. :p

I don't hoard that kind of stuff, but oddly I do collect containers which would allow me to hoard stuff. I have a bunch of different containers of all different sizes that have nothing in them. I don't even hoard old game boxes or anything like that. I have a binder with discs and cdkeys in them and that's it.

But I just can't stop collecting small containers.
