| Chiropractors are quacks.
http://www.skepdic.com/chiro.html
If you need help with pain you should go to a real doctor and/or get referred to a physical therapist.
I also suggest you avoid letting a Chiropractor anywhere near your neck.

| I feel like those X-rays are scams. A few of my coworkers went, and they will point out how crooked your spine is and say you need a total 16 sessions 2x a week in order to get it corrected.
When I go to different chiropractors, they adjust me 2-3 times over the course of a couple weeks and told me to go back whenever I feel tense again.
However, whenever I did get adjusted, my neck DEFINITELY feels better.
Also, most chiropractic adjusts only I`ve seen are $25. Massage and other stuff costs extra. |

| It would definitely benefit you to see a Chiropractor who is covered, you'll probably be in for a couple of times per week for many weeks. The good news is that maintenance is easy if you keep it up. Treat your back like a car. Your car needs oil changes, your back needs adjustments - it's maintenance and should be done regularly. |

| I'm from a family of chiropractors, so I got tons of free adjustments growing up. Nothing I'd say would be unbiased, but I can tell you it definitely fixes you when you can't turn your neck.
Also, good posture while sleeping is very important to prevent degeneration. |

| I used to think chiropractors were akin to witchdoctors, but in the past few years my chiro has cleared up a few acute back/neck ailments. It's worth a shot for you. Who knows, maybe he'll make an adjustment and your tummy will suddenly feel better. Stranger things have happened. |

| My family has had a chiropractic practice for 67 years and AFAIK never heard of an issue of that link's scare tactic (stretching arteries). I'd guess this probably occurs with people who have badly calcified arteries in combination with bad chiropractors.
I'd say there's more long-term danger by going to a general HMO physician for a sore neck than going to a doctor of chiropractic. They'd probably be faster to issue drugs for the pain, or even use surgery where a lifestyle-change and personalized health plan would address the actual problem and increase overall health. Of course, good chiropractors and good physicians bump patients back and forth a lot.
Chiropractic may not have started scientifically, but I'd be really surprised if, after all these years, the field hadn't confirmed many of their findings with studies to appease the establishment. |

| i love chiropractics. it always sounds like they are breaking my bones during the treatment.
always felt better after it.
from a logical standpoint - i see nothing wrong with chiropractics.
but i think the pharmacy industry doesnt like them because once a person is fixed doctors cant prescribe expensive medicine anymore and all they do is some wrestling moves with you. :) not much money in there. |

| Another great reference to learn about Chiropratic.
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/reference/?p=44
I would suggest the two parter by Dr. Novella, it gives a good overview of what it is, what types of chiropractors there are and what they try to do and what the actual evidence shows in terms of usefulness (or lack of it).
Chiropractic – A Brief Overview, Part I
Chiropractic – A Brief Overview, Part II
I know it might seem like a lot to read but hopefully you`ll be better educated after reading it and at least want to find out the sort of chiropractors you`ve encountered. |

| Curious...do you drink coffee or caffeine from soda? My wife used to get debilitating migraines all the time, but they went away when she stopped drinking coffee during her pregnancy. Now if she has any caffeine she instantly gets a migraine so we can trace the cause. |

| I don't drink coffee. I haven't had much caffeine in the last two weeks. It's a neck problem IMO. It hurts. |

| I`ve had some of the same problems. The chiropractor helps to a degree, but the main cause and fix to my problems have been posture and ergonomic related. From playing so many games and online poker in addition to working on a laptop, my neck and spine had some problems--mainly muscular. When these problems went untreated because I have a pretty high pain threshold, things kept getting worse, so I started going to the chiropractor who a neighbor recommended. He was pretty good, but the best advice that he gave me was to make sure that my monitor is aligned with my eyes (monitor stand) and that I have good, ergonomic peripherals and a good chair. It also helps to take breaks every hour or so and stretch out the problem areas. A good massage of the affected areas can also be very helpful, but only if you have someone that really knows what they`re doing. It will hurt while the massage is happening, but you`ll feel a shitload better afterwards. Another thing that has helped is trying to sit actively (google it) or even stand sometimes. Some people have gotten extreme and use standing desks, but that`s not really an option for me. Hope this helps. You can do a number of things to augment what you`re chiropractor is doing so that you have to go less frequently... |

| I told my assistant at work about your experience two weeks ago as he had similar issues with migraines and stomach problems. He came in late today from his second visit to the Chiropractor and has said he has already noticed a major improvement. He said they showed him Xrays that show how jacked up his spine and vertebrae and that while they can't correct them, they can relieve pressure on them so they are able to shift back into the correct position over time.
I'm kind of leery about stuff like that but if he says it helps then I believe him.
I've always been told that cracking your knuckles will give your arthritis when you're older so I wonder if seeing a chiropractor has similar effects? Much like drugs I think I'll stay away unless I have no alternative. |

| Neck pain, okay, a chiropractor can definitely help with that.
Stomach pain? Dude, no chance. You're going to have to get that checked out by a real doctor. You might have a really bad ulcer or something, and no amount of neck cracks and back rubs are going to fix that. |

| hj: they've done every test they can think of and can find nothing. The stomach pain started right after I moved everything to a 3rd floor apartment and my back is screwed up in the same area that's supposed to be attached to the stomach. So it's possible that can fix it.
I've also tried all the herbal route too. |

| Sounds like a hernia. What kind of tests are they running? MRIs?
Give me an exhaustive list of what's going on with it. My dad's an orthopedic surgeon with like 40 years experience, I can run them by him and see if he has any ideas.

| I think I mentioned this before in another post, but in case I didn't I'll ask here:
Do you have a workout routine right now?
I've found that the only way I can keep my migraines in check is to have a clear and consistent workout routine. Whenever I waiver from it, my migraines start right back up.
Chiropractors is certainly something I endorse as well. Basic massages really do help to loosen up muscles that the human body is genetically supposed to have active but don't necessary get to be active because of office based work routines. I have no problem going to one of those guys who has a 1-2 month program under his / her belt for basic stuff, but if I am looking for medical relief, I am going to be a little more critical about who who I go to. |

| I broke my back in Iraq (long story) I've often thought about going to the Chiropractor but I've yet to make it a priority when I see my Dr. I've done the physical therapy but I'm starting to develop lordosis. |
