| I really miss demonoid. I have gone to usenet in the past, the last time I looked giganews was the goto provider and it got pretty expensive if you tended to grab tons of stuff. I used it to grab the O&A radio show and that was enough to kill the lowest tier's bandwidth offering. Is there a more reasonable option out there or are bandwidth based?
If you are into ebooks, I just discovered an awesome site that has been around for a while called Tuebl.com. I think the thing that impresses me most is that they are direct download and really fast. One thing to note is that you need to search for author's last name first or nothing will come up. It is epub format and that is easy to convert to anything you need for your particular e-reader. |

| Usenet is an internet system that has been around for a really long time. It is essentially a cross between email and forums. You "post" to a particular newsgroup and then the message gets distributed via a variety of usenet servers and anyone subscribed to that newsgroup can see your post. Many people post movies or applications and then you can download them.
It is a text only system, but they circumvented that limitation by encoding the binaries in a text format. It generally makes everything like 33% bigger to download and then you need to decode the "text binaries" back into normal files. Usenet reader software usually handles that automatically.
There are thousands of different newsgroups covering a variety of topics. Things like alt.binaries.warez or alt.binaries.movies Finding the right newsgroup for what you are looking for is important too. That was how lots of pirating was done before torrents were so popular.
I am very out of the loop on it's current incarnation though.

| Lately I had been using Demonoid to get digital versions of books I own - they actually had quite the collection going on there. Thanks for that tuebl link Tapar, I'll have to check it out when I get a chance.
In any event, the learning curve for Usenet can be a little intimidating. That being the case, I'd have to say Easynews is probably the best for new people as they are the only provider to offer a web interface for searching and downloading content. No messing with binaries or par files or 3rd party reader/compiler software. They offer a 14-day free trial for anyone interested in checking them out.
Disclaimer: I've been an Easynews member for almost 7 years so my recommendation is a little biased. But honestly, if you're a Usenet fan try them out. Once you see how awesome their web search is you'll never be able to bring yourself to go back to downloading binary headers via NNTP ever again :) |

| There are several guides online, and currently usenet is untraceable. |

| FYI, if you do end up going with Easynews, I would highly recommend you get browser download manager as downloading large files (ie. greater than 500MB) via http can result in broken or interrupted files.

If you like, shoot me an email and I'll give you my account info so you can log in and play around with it. I have over 3.5 terabytes saved in my gig bank so you're welcome to download as much as you want :) |

Depends on what you plan on using it for. I'm what many would consider a power user. I download well over 100GB every month, mostly hi-def tv shows and movies. For me it's more than worth it. Hell, I'd download even more but my current ISP caps me at 150GB/month.
However if you only plan on downloading a little here and there, the $15 plan maybe more suitable. |

| Forget the $30 plan. Supernews is $10 a month and has all the retention you probably need. Can be a pain to setup usenet access, but once you get it going, it`s the easiest thing ever to find stuff with.
