| From Dr. Strangelove...
General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children`s ice cream.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: You know when fluoridation first began?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: I... no, no. I don`t, Jack.
General Jack D. Ripper: Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It`s incredibly obvious, isn`t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That`s the way your hard-core Commie works.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first... become... well, develop this theory?
General Jack D. Ripper: Well, I, uh... I... I... first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Hmm.
General Jack D. Ripper: I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No.
General Jack D. Ripper: But I... I do deny them my essence.

| Excuse my english, I`m learning how to write a good english. It is possible that you are not used to the taste of water. What do you usually drink? It is not good for your health if you drink a lot of pop every day. Citrus-type juice is good for you unless if you drink too much of it, it can upset your stomach. Also, Any other kind of juice that you drink is good for you. |

I stopped drinking it for wrestling about 2 years ago and I haven`t gone back. No carbonated beverages (except an occasional lemonade or two) since then. I drink water like crazy - it is the way to go.

Those silly bottled water people drink way too much water. No one needs 8 glasses of water a day, it is really around 4 and most of that can ceom from food. To get to the point, everyone can drink whatever the hell they want, it doesn`t matter. |

| Only water can hydrate you. Sports drinks are designed for people who are being physically active, and need an energy that very second. Hence the sugar that`s contained in them. They are not that bad for that purpose. But a lot of people just drink them when they`re doing nothing more than sitting around. Electrolyes are Chlorine, Potassium, and sodium, not water, so they cannot hydrate you, only water can do that. |

What you people say about "only water can hydrate you" is total nonsene, every medic can tell you that. Who told you such lies? I am 33 years old, have good teeth, good health, my hydration level is very well and I only drink softdrinks and juices (and beer and wine).
Also no risk of diabetes, all fine. I really wonder how people can seriously say you cannot live without drinking plain water. That is just totally wrong.

| I used to hate water, but for about a year and a half, I quit drinking soda (I will still have one a month at the most). I started drinking water, about 3-4 liters a day, you start getting used to the flavor and after awhile, you start to like it. I always have a bottle of water next to me. When I ride my bike, I fill my entire camel back with it, and will go through the whole thing. It sucks because of all this piss breaks, but you can never have too much water. Helps you lose weight as well. It's suppose to help you lose the soreness when you work out, but it doesn't seem to help me.
I also drink Iced Tea. I will have one of those a day, but without anything added to it.

Yes, but that website did not go into the unfavourable effects of filling your body with caffeine, extra carbs, and sugar. That stuff will fatten you up and make you an unhealthy person. If you don't drink that garbage then what do you drink? Water! Also, if you work out a lot, you persperate a lot, ergo you need more water. Hence Bill Phillips' 8 glasses a day.
But hey, if you want to keep adding the fat (you know, the girls find that soooo sexy) then be my guest ;)

Our bodies are comprised of 60% water, and just a sudden 5% decrease can cause death. I`ve never heard of a person with 0% water in their body unless they were some dug up corpse. |

Have you tried lemon or any of that stuff with your water? Lemon usually gives water a good taste to actually enjoy it, but this is the soda age.
Eventually you will need to revert to water instead of soda and you'll find good ways to make it tasty.

Oh my god you must be the head moron of the moron group that has gathered here today...yellow piss means you DO NOT have enough water. If you drink all water, and enough of it, your piss will be clear. And that is how it should be, clear. Pissing is your bodys way of ceaning itself, it`s a garbage disposal. And water is used to flush you out. When you drink pops and juices you are just filling your body with more crap, which is what you are trying to get rid of in the first place. And if you are drinking lots of water, and nothing else, and you have yellow pee, then you are seriously dehydrated and if it burns, then you should seek medical help, because that just isn`t normal. And water will help you in many health ways also. Before I went to bootcamp, I used to get lots of headachs, lots of colds, and dizy spells at least once a week. Little did I know that all of that could be fixed by drinking more water, now two years later the dizzy spells are gone, I cant remeber the last time I got a headache, and I have only been sick when I went to cyprus and caught some desease that is there. In the end, water is one of the best things for your body, Gatoraid, Poweraid, Sodas, and high sugar juices are not. |

| When they say you need to drink 8 glasses of "water" a day, that includes any liquid that doesn't contain caffeine. If it does, you'll need to replenish that amount with non-caffeinated drinks.
I'd never drink copious amounts of tap water (blech). I have a Brita filter at home and I fill up bottles to bring to work or the gym. What I can't stand is carbonated water for some reason. I'm guessing the tasteless liquid with bubbles makes it more unpleasant. |

| Drinking water allows your body to get rid of toxins in your system. It helps to promote your immune system as well. If your immune system is over-working in trying to get rid of the nice viruses/bacteria in your system because you are not drinking enough water you can get seriously sick. Not having enough water can also put too much strain on your liver from what I have heard. I know I feel like crap if I don't have enough water - my lips become dry as well when not drinking the water I need.
I drink two cups of coffee a day and do become quite dehydrated but I drink quite a bit of water to conteract it.
You need water Neb. I know you hate the taste of it but if you are seriously worred about coming down with diabetes because of family history, you need to bite the bullet and drink more water. Any soft drinks, with the crap load of crap inside of them, will just gather up in your system and cause you problems in the long haul. Even diet drinks will mess you up.
Also, it is always highly recommended for people who are on diets to drink lots of water. People can end up losing weight just on that aspect of it. |

| I wanted to add (because of dclock's comments) that since I have been drinking so much water and working out religiously 4 days a week, I haven't been sick for a year and a half. My whole family (wife and 2 kids) have had colds and the flu, usually the 10 year old (5th grade) brings it home from school, but I have been able to avoid it.
Bottom line, water good, soda (pop/soda pop whatever) bad.

| I drink nothing but water and a frappuchino here and there(frozen water with juice). Atleast 2 liters of water a day. I get sick maybe twice a year (cold, flu) if that.
Think of it this way NEbu. Each pop(or soda as coastal people say) is 150 calories(Average). If you drink only 1 pop a day that is almost 16 pounds a year. If you drink 3 or more pops a day(which you are if you are not drinking any water) You will lose 50 pounds a year in excess weight.....
Soda was meant to be a luxury like candy. Does anyone survive on Candy alone? No. But we fat Americans want everything based on taste and how they make us feel, reguardless of what the consequences are. Take a stand Nebu....I stopped drinking soda last year and I`ve trimmed 20 pounds instead of gaining almost 10 pounds a year. I hated the taste at first(because I loved soda), but once I started drinking it I couldnt drink anything else. Face it.....you are addicted to soda! God would not approve... (=

| Yes, if you are convinced to start drinking water (and do be convinced :) ) you need to start right. Don`t judge based on AQUAFINA or DASANI or any of that crap. I drink probably 6 25 oz. bottles of water a day and I will not touch that stuff. I prefer Absopure from Meijer (don`t know if you have that out there, but that`s the brand). I`m sure there are others you can find. Once you start drinking so much water, you can begin to tell what has a plastic taste, salty taste, etc., and you pick your favorite brand.

| When I went through Navy boot camp at Great Mistakes(December-February) we were issued a canteen /w belt and ordered to drink 10-12 canteens of water a day to maintain health and hyrdation. When we did our second piss screening almost everyone had dark yellow piss, meaning dehydration. By the time we left boot camp everyones piss was either clear or slightly shaded.
Here is what I noticed based on drinking 10-12 canteens of water a day along with eating three balanced meals a day and 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise three times a week:
1. I went from weighing 192 lbs on my first day of boot camp to weighing about 175 lbs at the end.
2. I was no longer tired/fatigued part way through a day
3. I no longer had headaches and felt better and better each day
4. I was stronger and had more endurance (final PT score before Battle Stations was 97 situps x2 mins, 72 pushups x2 mins, 10:45 x1.5 miles)
Overall drinking so much water helped me not only through Boot Camp but also through Penasacola and even now by keeping my weight down, helping my strength and endurance and keeping me a healthy person overall.
A good rule of thumb that I`ve used is 12oz of soda should be followed within an hour by 12oz of water.
Water by far is the healthiest and safest thing to drink. |

| Norbert, if it were obvious to you I wouldnt have posted that. I never said Plain water. I just said "water". If you eat dry cereal you`re getting water. But no matter where you get your water, whether you drink plain or not, the fact is that only water can hydrate you. Heck, you can get water without eating or drinking anything at all, if you`re body decides to breakdown its fat and convert that into water. But no matter where you get it, it`s still the only thing that can hydrate you. |

| If sodas really dehydrated people, and you really needed eight glasses of water a day, I am sure a lot of people would have A)died from dehydration, or B)have a lot of problems with hydration. I never get dehydrated, unless I am doing something physical, and I never drink water (it does taste like crap). |

| If you drink sodas, you`re drinking sodium too. So the water you gain is lost right away because it is needed to get rid of the sodium. It`s like getting a 500$ check and a bill at the same time. |

since i live out in the country i get water from my own well, and it`s a LOT better then tap water with all those chemicals in it. Maybe that`s what makes you hate it so much. |

| Sickoflife: Dehydration does not always mean you are on your last legs... but it does mean that you`re not 100% hydrated, which can lead to stunted cycles of detoxification, such as long headaches and getting sick and staying sick. I bet most of the water drinkers here do not stay sick longer than a week at most, I know I haven`t for over five years now, then again I am a vitamin C freak so water might not be the only reason hehe. Also, someone brought up a point of headaches, I haven`t had a headache for about five years now too... unless you count slight pain from wearing tight sunglasses. :) |

But let me reiterate - NO AQUAFINA! That stuff is nasty. No wonder you don`t like it.

| Norbert - your smoking will kill you in the end, no matter how hydrated you are. You say you eat healthy, drink juices - but you contradict yourself. You drink beer, wines and smoke. You think eatting healthy will offset lung cancer, psyrosis (sp?) of the liver and other possible health problems? You are deluding yourself. Stop lying to yourself. Stop smoking. Don't drink beer (maybe red wines for your heart) and that's that. |

| One odd thing is the fact that bottled water tastes worse than water from a tap or definitely when from a filter, especially when the bottled water is warm. It gets this nasty, filmy, plastic-y taste. Eww. |

| Don't buy that distilled water. Water naturally has no taste, so it feels weird when drinking it, as you are used to having some sort of sensation when you drink something. Instead you just get this feeling of some sort of liquid traveling in your mouth, but no taste. When you actually have good tasting water, it's the minerals in it that actually provide the taste. We've got great resevoir water here in New York! |

| for all those people saying sodium dehydrates you:
that is inaccurate. if you have too much sodium then yes you will get deyhdrated but your body still needs some to absorb water. on the news the other week they showed someone who got WATER POISONING from drinking only water. his body couldn`t absorb it because he had no sodium... that is why gatorade (which contains sodium) is probably better at hydrating you than plain water. |

I`ve been getting these 6 packs called "Crystal Geyser" i`ve got empty bottles all over my room. You`d think i`m a water junky. It`s just nice having something that you can start drinking, then pick it up and drink the rest the next day. Of course my room is always cold as shit so I never really get any hot water laying around. And i`m not a water junkie, never used to drink it at all. |

| Water quality varies widely on where you go. Here we have some of the softest tap water in the country and it`s nice. Add a brita filter and it`s even better. I had Hawaiian tap water and that was acually gross. Not tasteless at all like it should be. It tasted like stale well water. Still, Coke, Barqs, ice tea, juice, BEER almost anything is better then water since it acually has a taste. |

| Tap water blwows and is still better than bottled water, which had an awful mineral aftertaste. I cannot even drink the crap till the chlorination taste has evaporated out, and then it is a small sip before my throat clenches and says `no more`. Didn`t see to many people putting plain milk here, but i sweat all day, and that certainly can`t be coming from the water that i am not drinking. Milk and juice is wear it is at. |

| You need water. Those saying you don`t are full of crap and have no clue what they are talking about. The body is mostly water, you need water. Soda does NOT do it. The whole health field is just recently realizing how HORRIBLE sugar is for you. My wife has cut sugar 100% out of her diet, and is working on me and the kids now.
I gaurantee you, cut out sugar and caffine 100%, and drink ONLY water, and you will be healthier. Now, that said, I still drink 1 to 2 32 OZ. fountain soda`s (Pepsi) per day. Horrible, but I do. I also try to drink 1 to 2 litre`s of water per day as well though.
The problem with juice, is that it is more sugar then anything else. Look on the label. Sobe is 3% Juice. 3%. That`s crazy. Most "Juices" are about 10% juice, being mostly sugar. About the only way to get real "Juice" is Apple and Orange. Those are usually 100% juice. |

| Water is good to clean out your system, thats about it, you dont need 6 glasses a day. a glass or 2 would be good to help your body get rid of toxins.
If you like cabbage or lettuce, thats good to eat too, lots of water in it without haveing to drink water.
And for people who are unheathly and or large (fat) eating more cabbage and water filled foods like cabbage will help you get healthier and loose weight, cause the water will help clean your system!!!!!
Exercizing might help. I`m quite sick of walking into mijers to see every employee either fat or have an ass the size of a mac truck. |
