California
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 8th, 2013 @ 2:57PM

MLady was saying it would be nice to live somewhere where people care about each other. That's what my mom thought too which is why she left California in 1998. This place is one of the worst states for people. They're heartless and uncaring. They don't even say high to you. My dad tells people hi when he walks and it's just unnatural because most people don't do it. He only gets away with it because he's 60+. The people are even worse when they get in their cars. They talk on their phones, don't pay attention, or purposely screw you over.

I've lived here 34 years or so, and I almost never know my neighbors. Finally after getting a house and living here 4 years we know about 4 of our neighbors.

When I went to Canada it was the absolute opposite. People are so nice that it's weird. You're not used to it. They wave when you drive by. Whenever people DON'T wave, they're the weird ones.

It would be so much better to live somewhere else with less people and nicer people. The middle states are actually the better states except for the smoking, and lack of OCEANS but oh well.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

I've lived all around the country at this point and its not hugely different else where. The year or so I spent in SoCal wasn't horrible where people were concerned, but I won't deny they seemed generally wrapped up in their own pursuits; that doesn't mean they weren't nice.

The only places I can say that I had a very surprisingly good experience living at was Deleware. Newark, DE was very friendly and Wilmington, DE was surprisingly aggressive at dealing with the bad parts of the community (IE Gangs). Notably, its fair to say DE has a very strong prejudice vein in it. If you aren't a white middle or upper class caucasian, you WILL get the cold shoulder. My visits to Boston and Salem Mass were really awesome, but I hear my experience was the exception and not the rule. There's plenty of people at your work that lived there, maybe they could give you better feedback about Boston!

One of my favorite writers once wrote "Moving the body doesn't change the soul".

To that end, I've been thinking more and more recently that it's our jobs to work in our community to make them better places. That is to say, I find it rare these days that communities really feel any sense of togetherness. This isn't something that just happens, you need to work for it.

California Finally Gets Good Plates Again
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 2nd, 2013 @ 12:56AM

You'd think for one of the biggest states we'd have the best plate choices but instead it's been the WORST. Stupid white. I do like the cursive California. The new plates have the stupid DMV url on it. Even worse.

- Legacy license plates: Under AB 1658, the Department of Motor Vehicles will start accepting applications for specialized licenses plates that replicate plates from the past. Styles from the 1950s, '60s and '70s will be available. The DMV will not begin production unless at least 7,500 are ordered.

876 new California Laws

New Plates. I may get the blue/yellow one. I've always loved that one and was mad when I could no longer get/use it. The black one is also awesome. It used to be impossible to get. I don't know what I'd put on it though. I've been thinking for hours. I'd like to get a random good one but my current random one is the best ever for a random plate. I'd hate to downgrade and they don't seem to let you keep the same random plate numbers.

This event was always so weird for me while I was out there. I thought it was neat, but so culturally different then what I am used to in the North East.

I lived in Norhtridge for 94 earthquake. It was a 6.8 centered 3 blocks from my house. Everything that was breakable was broken, there were cracks in the floor and ceiling, but something unusual stood out to me. There was a black sharpie on my kitchen table the night before the earthquake and the next day there were black marks on the ceiling. Earthquakes suck.

Assholes remove the firepits from the Beach

We've been using them every year for 15+ years. Some people said they'd been using them for over 40 years. What stupid fuckers. They took the parking fee from $5 to $8 to $10. Then $20 on holidays. Now they remove the fire pits. That beach already has useless waves. So that just leaves the fire pits as a source of entertainment. Now we all have to go to plain jane boring Huntington Beach for fire pits with the gang bangers. F those assholes. They ruined a yearly thing. I hope there is enough backlash to restore them.

Yesterday: Festival of Whales
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on March 5th, 2012 @ 10:29AM

Festival of Whales

We went to Dana Point (beach/harbor) and they had some cool events. They had a pirates digging for treasure event. You could find a diamond. One person found it. Me and M. Bacon dug up THIS. $60 coaster. It's these little plastic tubes you dig up and then go turn them in for prizes. My knees were so f-ed up kneeling along the sand. I dug for 1 hour. After the first find, I combed the whole treasure area and never found anything else. We also found a cheap prize, a Matchbox car. So they charged $20 for 2 shovels and we got about $65 in prizes. It was pretty fun. Tiring though. My knees are so like graveled up. It looks like you knelt across a cheese grater. The other family we were with found a cool watch and a marshmello shooter. They got screwed. The watch is pretty cool. I wonder if it's worth more than $20.

They had sandcastle building but only about 3 people showed. They lost on that event.

They had a duck race but $10 a duck and didn't look like anyone did it.

Overall it turned out pretty well. Dana Harbor is awesome.

We went to China Town
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 28th, 2012 @ 11:31PM

Road the train like sardines. They gave away 100 free tickets so the whole train was packed. Everyone who wasn't going to China Town parade was mad about all the people. It was horrible.

The parade was "OK" I've seen way better. I guess it was OK for them. I'm used to floats and more things in a parade. I think even our El Cajon one was way better.

I enjoyed the stores. I like turtles. We bought some turtles for $8. If anyone has a clue about taking care of turtles, please post.

We went to this place. It took them 1 hour to even take our order. They had this lady who had worked there 40 years and she couldn't hear anyone or run a cash register. The manager heard my chick complain and he told her all that. But then the other lines saw 10 people go through while this lady was trying to help 1 person. Time to retire!?!?!

Then we miss the train cuz it took too long at 4:40 and had to wait all the way until 8:30. Then we learn they had 2 secret trains that only were mentioned on facebook or twitter. Who the f subscribers to twitter for a train. I guess we should have.

I bought 3 raiden hats! I got a kids one for M. Bacon. Everyone loved them. We got lots of compliments. And compliments on our turtles too. We sat down to eat for 2nd dinner (my chick is a hobbit) and there were 2 other tables with turtles too.

Wild Rivers

It's a water park that has been around since 1986 or so. http://www.wildrivers.com/default_test.asp. Yesterday we went to the duck race. They keep telling us every year it's the last year that place is going to be open.

It's very sad. We like that water park. M. Bacon loves it. It's also SO CLOSE, like 5 mins away. We're hoping they stay open or that they move the park somewhere else but who knows. F-ing poor people!

Wild Rivers closes after 25 years

What's replacing Wild Rivers?

"Back in 2007, Irvine Co. declined to renew Wild Rivers' long-term lease. But community pressure – and the housing slowdown – nudged the developer to grant the water park what amounted to four years to find a new location. Wild Rivers failed to secure a new site."

Muslims in California
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on September 20th, 2011 @ 11:06AM

In the span of 1 year they're taking over Irvine. That's bad news for the Asians who have ran Irvine. The Mayor is Asian, took it over from a white lady who took it over from a white guy.

As I posted previously, it's so out of place because almost everyone is white/mexican except in the big cities where there are black people and a few cities (San Fran, OC/LA) with Asians.

I went to an upscale private park on Friday and there were 20 Muslims and 2 white people (me and my daughter). I noticed some funny things:

  • There was a teen muslim girl in the head covering but she kept saying "OH MY GOD". It really didn't fit the outfit. What's the point of the outfit at that point.
  • Hot Muslim mom. One of the moms went local and had a giant boob shirt and hot sweat-like pants. I approve of that effort to integrate into society!
  • They wear the head coverings but where regular clothes like Converse or Skinny jeans. It doesn't fit.
  • The boy kids were ANNOYING AS FUCK and the female parents did nothing. Which is also a theme of other people's here. I was thinking oh male childs, they can do whatever they want because they're males and the women just have to put up with that shit. One boy kid was just screaming as loud as he could and pointing to his sister and laughing and the mom did nothing.

i don`t think it`s a muslim thing, i think it`s a lazy parent thing, i took my daughter to the doctor yesterday and this 4 year old was running around throwning books and toys and knocking into my daughters stroller, all his mom did was say "i don`t think you should be doing that" are you kidding me? >

    Smokin Joe
    - 2011-09-20 12:15:47

It's not really that weird that this is happening more and more. If you slap your child in public you'll get a visit from some child care representative, because someone immediately makes a phone call about it. Besides that; there's this trend going on since a few years where people believe that it is unnecessary to slap and that you can raise your kids perfectly fine without doing such a thing. Now that might be the case in some situations, but most of the kids are spoiled brats who need a good old slap on the ass or hands every now and again. What's even worse is that schools brainwash kids with this "everybody is special" shit. Now that stuff is bound to make kids complete retards who think they can pull off everything.
