California Drought
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on December 12th, 2014 @ 10:37AM

From a coworker

It’s also the aquifers having been heavily depleted, because in drought times we pump more from the ground. This is less of the issue for the western seaboard, but for example the Ogallala aquifer has largely been emptied – this aquifer suppies about 30% of the water used for irrigation in the US, and most of the drinking water to people in the 6 states sitting on top of the aquifer. This is a real crisis. We’ve drawn out so much water in places that it would take 6000 years to refill them naturally (natural being – no more humans pumping water, wait 6000 years of normal seasons’ worth of rain/snow to refill them).

But this affects California too – during the drought years, we’ve gotten almost 60% of our water from groundwater (stored in aquifers), because our lakes and rivers are running dry. So heavy rainfall would go directly to filling the aquifers, as long as it’s steady rain and not torrential (that would flow disproportionately to the oceans).

The above-ground reservoirs are important, but not the most important part of the picture. It’s simply that they are visible, for people to obsess over.

Jane Lynch I'm Officially Divorced And it Cost Me a Fortune!
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on October 28th, 2014 @ 2:25PM

Geez she got reemed. Was marriage really worth it? The whole divorce thing is super lame. She did all that work and her "wife" got 1/2 of all the work she did.

Divorce laws are antiquated. Unfortunately, most people don`t know this until they experience it themselves. This outcome is pretty much the norm and people (mostly men) experience this on a regular basis.

The problem is that when you look at marriage from a government perspective and take the love and religious components out, it is essentially a HORRIBLE business agreement. It is the kind of deal no one in their right mind would ever make if it was called something other than marriage and they looked at it from a contract's point of view. The way this stuff works out is painfully unfair much of the time.

With more than 50% of marriages ending in divorce...I honestly can't understand why anyone would take those odds. I do see why women want to get married, it is a good deal for them on average...I don't know why so many men surcome to the pressure and go through with it. I have seen more than one friend get married essentially due to the woman being peer pressured into giving ultimatums (ie marry me or I have to move on).

I also know more than a few people who are stuck living with someone they have grown to dislike but can't afford to pay the alimony if they were to get divorced. That really seems like a broken system to me.

We were at Venice Beach a few weeks ago and a black guy tried to deal me a Banana. He said it's "rich in potasium." It wasn't a fruit cart, or display or anything, just 1 guy holding a bunch of bananas. haha. It was the same movements/acts everything like it was some sort of drug deal. It was even a shady looking guy dealing them haha.

do you have enough insulation in your attic? your attic is always going to be hot but the insulation keeps it from coming into your house.

also if you have a peaked roof like this /\ you can get a ridge vent installed that goes across the whole peak at the very top and and provides the best heat venting available

California drivers brace for costly new gas tax - Sucks to be here..

These fuckers don't want us to live.

Estimates of the cost of the tax vary. The California Air Resources Board, the Golden State's premier anti-pollution agency, predicts the new tax will raise gasoline prices from 20 cents to $1.30 per gallon. A prominent state senator who helped author the bill estimated the cost at 40 cents a gallon. Environmental activists downplay the cost, but hail the impact.

Irvine has homeless... They usually ship them out to probably the ghetto, 1 city over. Today there was this lady just swearing to herself and ranting to herself right down the street from my house. At the next light, there's a dude homeless guy living off his bike. You NEVER see that in Irvine. Every time I go to El Pollo Loco there's a lady in a dress with her kid and she's preggers begging for money. Seen that 2x now.

Queen Mary - Chill
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on November 25th, 2013 @ 12:55AM

We spent 6 hours in the Queen Mary's Chil event. The fuckers charged $20 for parking. What assholes. Once inside, it was the most expensive food I've ever seen. $10 for crepes. $3 for a 12 ounce drink. What assholes. Then they kept replaying this same horrible song, with just 3 chords for 6 hours. What assholes. It was the worst time ever. I told momette if he ever wanted to know what Hell is like, this is the place.

They did have this sledding thing that was decent but the line was so long. Like 1 hour. Then they had some amazing ice sculptures in there and a cool ice slide. Sure not worth the money though. The ice sculpture thing was the only thing positive out of it. I think I wasted $100 that I DON'T HAVE. :( :( :( At least they had some portals on the queen mary we got and 4 in the chill area we burnt out 2x. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, you suck.

That thing just opened! don't you wait a few days or at least one weekend before the rush crowd comes in? I haven't been yet, but I did not hear great things last year so I have not gone.
