You know America is in the shitter when...

Irvine has homeless... They usually ship them out to probably the ghetto, 1 city over. Today there was this lady just swearing to herself and ranting to herself right down the street from my house. At the next light, there's a dude homeless guy living off his bike. You NEVER see that in Irvine. Every time I go to El Pollo Loco there's a lady in a dress with her kid and she's preggers begging for money. Seen that 2x now.

Queen Mary - Chill
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on November 25th, 2013 @ 12:55AM

We spent 6 hours in the Queen Mary's Chil event. The fuckers charged $20 for parking. What assholes. Once inside, it was the most expensive food I've ever seen. $10 for crepes. $3 for a 12 ounce drink. What assholes. Then they kept replaying this same horrible song, with just 3 chords for 6 hours. What assholes. It was the worst time ever. I told momette if he ever wanted to know what Hell is like, this is the place.

They did have this sledding thing that was decent but the line was so long. Like 1 hour. Then they had some amazing ice sculptures in there and a cool ice slide. Sure not worth the money though. The ice sculpture thing was the only thing positive out of it. I think I wasted $100 that I DON'T HAVE. :( :( :( At least they had some portals on the queen mary we got and 4 in the chill area we burnt out 2x. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, you suck.

That thing just opened! don't you wait a few days or at least one weekend before the rush crowd comes in? I haven't been yet, but I did not hear great things last year so I have not gone.

Back from my Trip.

Yosemite, California

Monday, May 27th, 2013SUGGEST NEWS

Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on May 27th, 2013 @ 1:48PM

I've lived in California but never been there. The problem is it's a 6 hour drive from Southern California, so it never makes any sense to go there. We got a 2 night stay in Housekeeping Camp for $100 a night. We completely missed the first day. By the time she was ready, it was 2am. So we couldn't drive 6 hours at 2am. She does all the packing and managed to get 4 bikes + all the camping stuff in the van + 2 kids. That's pretty amazing. By the time we got there the 2nd day it was 6-7 p.m. on day 2. At the end they tried to charge us for day 1 having never been there. She managed to talk them out of it. haha nice job. The camp was super cool. I would have loved to stay there 2 days. haha.

We went for a late bike night drive to the nearst falls. There was a full moon so it was pretty cool. There was an ingress portal there too I captured. I really wanted the key to that portal but after 12 loots, still never got it. Sad.

The next day we already had to be packed up and leave our camp by 11am. So we really screwed up the whole event I thought. I was mad about it.

So after checking out, we parked in the registration area. I actually woke up at 7am to go try to get a second night at ANY camp. You have to reserve 5 months in advance. I ended up being about 15-19th in line. They make you then come back at 3pm to see if you made it. I came back and they only gave away like 5 spots for 30+ people. What a waste of 2 hours.

After packing up. I planned on parking somewhere then we would ride the bikes. The van had no bike carrier so we had to pack our things around the bikes and take off both front wheels.

I drove off looking for a parking spot while everyone else road bikes. But to my nightmare, it was the most cars I've ever seen in my life in bumper to bumper traffic. Memorial day weekend is the worst day of the year for that place. People were parked in the most crazy spots. Then I missed a turn and had to drive around the whole park to get back. I ended up spending 30 mins to drive back to the exact same parking lot for a worse parking space. I learned a lesson there.

We biked over to Curry Village and went to the pizza place there. $22 for a pizza but it's amazing they get that kind of quality in the middle of nowhere. The pizza wasn't that great. The family got ice cream too. Then we went over to the visitors center. The kids got their junior ranger badges.

We then went over to Yosemete lodge. Something like $200-300 a night. I'd love to stay there. We ate at the bar and watched a movie in their open area.

Then we had to bike back at like 10 p.m. to the car. By the time we got the car packed up to leave it was around 12 a.m.. We drove away and I made it about an hour before we were both too tired to continue. We slept 2 hours at a vista point. I then drove off at 3 a.m. while everyone slept until about 7 a.m. I ended up following the HORRIBLE honda GPS. Those built in car gps always suck balls. It led me across some mountain route 49 rather than around on the freeways. So it added about 1-2 hours to the trip to my dads. I did end up driving down a route that had 1 hour of uncapped portals at INGRESS. So that drive was not a waste.

Also, we ended up Coloma State park which had a ton of portals and the kids got to go Gold Panning. I was getting a portal and I look down and somehow I ended up at the California Gold Rush discovery site, Sutter's Mill. Amazing.

Yosemete was new and beautiful but I don't think it lives up to the hype. I've had way better camping before such as houseboat camping in AZ. Or staying in a lodge then snow skiing. But the place was beautiful and I recommend that Housekeeping Camp for camping over Curry Village or that lodge if you can afford it. The valley had a nice and interesting feel to it. Everyone was nice to each other.

If you're into climbing, that's a great spot. We don't climb though. There's climbers everywhere and they stay at camp 4 someone said. As we were leaving some idiot was out there at 12 am trying to climb this like 12 foot rock in the dark. Practicing maybe.

You HAVE to bring bikes or that place sucks. So the biking is cool. My street bike is a bad choice for that dirt trail biking though. It seemed to survive.

If you're not into climbing, the appeal seems to be the biking or campaign or the falls. They also had a river that people were playing on a beach or fishing. The falls are amazing. We went up to one of them 3 times. We were up there at 12 am and there was like 50 people up there. All these dorks with their night cameras on tripods trying to take pictures of a "moonbow." I say just dload that on the web off someone else. Save yourself the time. I was thinking I guess the appeal is for them to take the shot themselves. Whatever!

For house keeping camp there's some interesting thing things you need to bring to use those 3 sided tent/cabins. Read up on it.

Bears. All the time they never shut up about bears. They have these bear boxes and you have to put every food + anything that smells like your tolietries in them. + they're a bitch to open/close. It sucks. That's a major downer. At the visitor center they had this video of all the bear attacks. They had $500,000 of damage last year to bears. So you think they don't exist but apparently they do. I never saw any. They even had a kid's show all about bears where they just recount what the already told us in flyers.

The place had pretty crappy cell service. I was about to get 3g in a few spots. I also enjoyed the one portal at the falls. We took some walkie talkies. One ran out of batteries but before it did, they worked really well and lasted a long range. They're must have in that place if you get split up.

One weird thing though was the place was full of nothing but outsiders from other countries. It's like they care more about what America has to offer than we do. haha. Everywhere you go it's people talking some strange language.

MLady was saying it would be nice to live somewhere where people care about each other. That's what my mom thought too which is why she left California in 1998. This place is one of the worst states for people. They're heartless and uncaring. They don't even say high to you. My dad tells people hi when he walks and it's just unnatural because most people don't do it. He only gets away with it because he's 60+. The people are even worse when they get in their cars. They talk on their phones, don't pay attention, or purposely screw you over.

I've lived here 34 years or so, and I almost never know my neighbors. Finally after getting a house and living here 4 years we know about 4 of our neighbors.

When I went to Canada it was the absolute opposite. People are so nice that it's weird. You're not used to it. They wave when you drive by. Whenever people DON'T wave, they're the weird ones.

It would be so much better to live somewhere else with less people and nicer people. The middle states are actually the better states except for the smoking, and lack of OCEANS but oh well.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

I've lived all around the country at this point and its not hugely different else where. The year or so I spent in SoCal wasn't horrible where people were concerned, but I won't deny they seemed generally wrapped up in their own pursuits; that doesn't mean they weren't nice.

The only places I can say that I had a very surprisingly good experience living at was Deleware. Newark, DE was very friendly and Wilmington, DE was surprisingly aggressive at dealing with the bad parts of the community (IE Gangs). Notably, its fair to say DE has a very strong prejudice vein in it. If you aren't a white middle or upper class caucasian, you WILL get the cold shoulder. My visits to Boston and Salem Mass were really awesome, but I hear my experience was the exception and not the rule. There's plenty of people at your work that lived there, maybe they could give you better feedback about Boston!

One of my favorite writers once wrote "Moving the body doesn't change the soul".

To that end, I've been thinking more and more recently that it's our jobs to work in our community to make them better places. That is to say, I find it rare these days that communities really feel any sense of togetherness. This isn't something that just happens, you need to work for it.

California Finally Gets Good Plates Again
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 2nd, 2013 @ 12:56AM

You'd think for one of the biggest states we'd have the best plate choices but instead it's been the WORST. Stupid white. I do like the cursive California. The new plates have the stupid DMV url on it. Even worse.

- Legacy license plates: Under AB 1658, the Department of Motor Vehicles will start accepting applications for specialized licenses plates that replicate plates from the past. Styles from the 1950s, '60s and '70s will be available. The DMV will not begin production unless at least 7,500 are ordered.

876 new California Laws

New Plates. I may get the blue/yellow one. I've always loved that one and was mad when I could no longer get/use it. The black one is also awesome. It used to be impossible to get. I don't know what I'd put on it though. I've been thinking for hours. I'd like to get a random good one but my current random one is the best ever for a random plate. I'd hate to downgrade and they don't seem to let you keep the same random plate numbers.
